Alliance to Celebrate 42RIDE's Conclusion and Support of Local Cycling
Los Angeles - August 17, 2009 - The Alliance for Biking & Walking invites all Los Angeles-area cycling supporters to join them in celebrating the 42RIDE on the last leg of the 4,017-mile, 55-day journey across America. LA cyclists are invited to pedal out to meet the riders at the very end of their trek in L.A., on Saturday, August 22, at a celebration to recognize the riders for their commitment to bicycling and grassroots bicycle advocacy.

The Alliance for Biking & Walking's celebration of the 42RIDE will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 22nd at Orange 20 Bikes in L.A.'s bicycle district at 4351 Melrose Avenue. All cycling supporters 21 years old and up are invited to attend and meet the riders. The Alliance will formally thank 42BELOW Vodka for their work to promote cycling across America through this grassroots endeavor.  Free valet bike parking will be available courtesy of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition.

The cyclists are part of 42RIDE, which kicked off in New York City on June 25.  Forty-two riders headed westwards for their adventure across the United States, half touring across the northern U.S. and the other touring the southern U.S.. Along the way, the 42 riders have promoted bicycling as a fun, sustainable, and healthy means of transportation. The ride was also a challenge to benefit the Alliance for Biking & Walking.  If 20,000 people sign up to follow the ride on Twitter, 42BELOW will make a $42,000 to the Alliance.

"Bicycling is one of the best ways to explore your community and our country in a healthy and sustainable way," says Jeffrey Miller, president and CEO of the Alliance for Biking & Walking. "We hope that the awareness 42RIDE has generated will inspire communities across America to become better places for bicycling and walking. We're excited to have the opportunity to host the event for the riders and thank them for their commitment to cycling, and for raising awareness for the movement."
