From the Pilothouse
It has been a busy September at Inland Seas. We scheduled Family Science Sails (2), Schoolship Programs for the NMC Watershed Studies class (2), Lakeshore HS, St. Francis-Ann Arbor (2), Benzie MS (5), Willow Hill Elem. (3), Groves HS, Kalkaska MS (3) and TCAPS Montessori. We also took part in the Michigan Schooner Festival (4 sails) and we will be dockside for tours at the Freshwater Summit (see article in this issue) on the afternoon of October 2. We will bring the schooner back to Suttons Bay on October 5 and begin winter down-rigging that afternoon.
I have developed a PowerPoint presentation entitled An Ecological History of the Great Lakes, with most examples taken from the local area. I have presented this program to the Grand Traverse Historical Society, the NMC Freshwater Studies class, and the MDEQ in Lansing. I will also be making this presentation at the upcoming Freshwater Summit. If your class or group would like to see this presentation, please contact me for scheduling.
Thank you for supporting ISEA. I hope to see you soon at one of the upcoming public events.

ISEA teamed up with the Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve to clean up the nearshore area by the Inland Seas dock on September 19. Most of the trash was bottles and cans, although there were a few larger items such as rebar and beach towels. We filled 2 garbage bags full of trash collected off the bottom! Thanks to Chris, Julie, and Nathan from the GTBUP for all their help! Click here to see more pictures of the clean up.

A Great Lakes Legacy
Making a bequest to Inland Seas Education Association is a very easy way to create your own Great Lakes Legacy. The preservation of our Great Lakes will remain a critical task for many years to come, and by planning a future gift to Inland Seas, you may be able to give a larger gift, and make a greater difference, than you ever thought possible.
Click here to learn more about gift planning. You can also contact ISEA's Development Director Steve Cruzen at 231-271-3077. | |
