Invasive Species Research Program
for High School students
July 15-16, 2009
Join ISEA for the fourth year of Invasive Species Research programs in Grand Traverse Bay! The Invasive Species Research Program has been developed to teach high school students about current research related to invasive species in the Great Lakes Region and ways to help reduce the introduction and spread of new invasive species. This 2-day Program will provide a unique experience of hands-on sampling aboard ISEA's 77-foot schooner Inland Seas. Participants will learn and practice sampling techniques, methods for analyzing scientific samples, and experimental design for invasive species research projects. While aboard Inland Seas, participants will sample invasive species in several locations and compare their data to historical data at the same location. Course participants will also have the opportunity to interact with scientists, mariners, and educators with a common interest in this critical issue. The cost of the Invasive Species Research Program is $300, which includes meals while aboard the schooner. For more information, check out our website or contact ISEA Education Director Christine Crissman by e-mail or phone 231-271-3077. |
