From the Helm
Although all I see from my office window is ice, the calendar tells me spring is coming and next week the crew will begin fit-out of Inland Seas. We hope to have the boat back in Suttons Bay by early April, and we will be ready for underway training exercises by April 20th. We could use a little help during fit-out as Jan Hale is recovering from surgery and won't be able to help out this spring. Call me or Capt. Remy if you would like to help.
We have a busy spring planned with 80 school classes already signed up. Our first Schoolship programs aboard Inland Seas are on May 1st, and aboard Manitou on May 8th. We also have a full summer schedule with several new programs. Check out Geology of Grand Traverse Bay, Underwater Exploration, and Literature of the Seas, all new this year.
A special thanks to the 102 loyal donors who responed to our special Early Spring Funding Campaign. We received $16,325 to date, and donations continue to come in. These gifts will ensure ISEA's Spring Schoolship programs will continue in the excellent tradition of the past 20 years, benefiting the Great Lakes and the youth of Michigan.
We welcome three new board members who will help guide and provide for Inland Seas in the coming years. They are Larry Garber, Bob Evatt, and Jane Klegman. This year's officers are Jay Zelenock, President; Eric Dreier, 1st Vice President; Lois Bahle, 2nd Vice President, Sally Somsel, Secretary; Mary Krantz, Tresurer; and Chuck Cady, Immediate Past President. A big thanks goes to retiring board member David Hunter. David will continue to be involved with several board committees. Thank you to all of our present and past board members!
Warm Spring Winds,
-Tom Kelly, Executive Director
