THE NC Secretary opf State may be Contacting you

  • Does your affiliate have a license to solicit contributions in North Carolina?
  • Is your license current?
  • If you are exempt, have you let the NC Secretary of State know?
 Make Sure You're in Compliance.

The Secretary of State is undergoing a compliance outreach project and will be contacting nonprofits in the coming months to make sure active organizations have a license or exemption from licensure if they are soliciting contributions in North Carolina.
If your affiliate's budget is over $25,000, you generally have to register with the Charitable Solicitation Licensing Division of the N.C. Secretary of State.  However, you should check with the Secretary of State to determine if your affiliate is exempt.  You may need to submit a request for exemption.

All nonprofits should contact the Secretary of State to determine if you need to register for a Charitable Solicitation License or to apply for exemption from the license.

Here's what you can do now:
If you have any questions, contact the Secretary of State's Charitable Solicitation Licensing Division at 888-830-4989.
