2012 MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY AND "YOU RANG | |
 Don't forget to return your information for the 2012 Membership Directory! The directory will go to print the third week in January and all of the important paperwork regarding the directory has been mailed to all HBAGTA members. The final deadline to return these forms is January 12th. It is important to note that the yellow page listings/business activities will be changing this year in order to comply with a statewide database. We cannot assume what your Business Activities should be, so please return all the necessary forms needed to identify your company in the 2012 Directory! We also are working on details regarding an exciting new Smart Phone advertising app called "You Rang" which will be offered to our Directory advertisers. This tool will afford homeowners' access to Certified HBA Contractors and Service Professionals through their iPhones or Androids. If you have any questions about the 2012 HBA Membership Directory or advertising opportunities within the publication, contact the HBA office.
The 2012 HBA Membership Directory will be distributed at the 2012 Home EXPO, as well as to even more businesses throughout the five-county area. Our goal is to increase community awareness of who our HBA members are, and what types of professional services and outstanding products they provide.

 Recently one of our members received more than $12,000 in rebate checks in 2011 through MAHB's Manufacturers Rebate Program-giving new meaning to the term "membership pays." There are now nearly 3 dozen manufacturers in the program, so even if you as a builder member only builds one house in the coming year, it's worth it for you to enroll. The 2012 Home Builders EXPO - the original and largest Traverse area home show is filling quickly. OVER Ninety booths have already been reserved for the event which will be held February 4th and 5th at the Grand Traverse Resort. The vendors who have signed on are extremely excited about this opportunity to market themselves in the new venue. This year the variety of products and services are expanding. No longer is the show simply focusing on home renovation and remodeling, many new exhibitors will be highlighting lifestyle choices. There will also be games and prizes for all ages and a sampling of local cuisine available to hungry show participants.

WAARA TECHNOLGIES TO HOST JANUARY MEETING | |

The January 9th HBA General Membership meeting will be held at Waara Technologies located at 144 Hall Street in the Warehouse District. Todd Waara and his team will showcase their new Theatre Room that is controlled by an ipad. It's a must see!" Waara Technologies will also introduce HBA members and guests to the new 3D TV's into the showroom - complete with surround sound and popcorn!
Do you have clients that want to view a webcam of their house on their iphone while they are in vacationing in Florida? Waara Technologies can do that and Todd will show you how.
The Builder Forum at 4:30 p.m. that night will highlight our newest member perk, "You Rang". This application will help clients and fellow members find all of your business info with their iPhone or Android. You don't want to miss this fun, interactive and informative evening.

CONTINUING THE IMPORTANT WORK OF THE STATE ASSOCIATION | |

If you have been an MAHB member for a number of years, you will be receiving a special request and letter from MAHB President Colin Herren in the mail within the next few days. In it he asks you to take a close look at the work of your state association and to consider providing some additional support in 2012. The year ahead will provide an opportunity to change the code adoption process (six-year flex code bill), eliminate property taxes on inventory homes and eliminate arbitrary rules for building on wetlands and critical dunes. These and other initiatives the MAHB is working on will continue to improve the tax and regulatory climate of our state and help the building industry grow. In short, President Herren asks you to seriously consider how much it is worth to you to make sure we have a strong MAHB and are successful in winning the aforementioned changes. Keep an eye out for this mailing and please give it your utmost consideration.

MAHB STALLS IMPLEMENTATION

The State of Michigan has agreed to further delay the implementation of the new federal rules on Fall Safety protection. Earlier this year the MAHB successfully worked to get a 6-month delay of this federal rule. At our request, the State is extending its moratorium until April 2012 and has pledged to work with the MAHB in establishing alternatives for contractors to utilize in our state.
The above is just one small (but extremely important) example of what your state association does on our members' behalf and I wanted you to be aware of it.
