Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served Thursday, October 13th from 4-8 p.m. and snacks all day Friday and Saturday, October 14th and 15th.

GREAT NEWS!
The Grand Traverse Resort has agreed to our proposal to host the 2012 Home Builder's EXPO! President Marc Burkholder, President-Elect Denny Lauterbach, EXPO Chairman, Eric Palmer, Marketing & Events Coordinator, Kerry Gartland and EO, Kathy Maisonville met with the Resort's CFO and Conference Director on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the details.
 One major change to note is the date. The event will now be held February 4th and 5th rather than the previously advertised dates of February 26th and 27th. Exhibitors will have much more time to set up, avoiding one of the major obstacles of previous shows. Booth rental rates are anticipated to remain at the same level as last year, through the first month of open enrollment. Premium spaces will, however, be available at a slight up-charge.
With this new agreement comes the challenge of reorganizing the event, especially the exhibit hall layout. Revised and updated EXPO vendor contracts and event details will be available within the next 2 weeks. HBA members and former vendors who have already called and asked for EXPO booths will be re-contacted by the end of October. The HBA staff requests that vendors allow us a few weeks to retool. As soon as feasible, all information will be posted at www.hbagta.com.

Three active HBA members have indicated their interest in running for the single Board seat available in December. Elections began electronically on October 1st. The final ballots will be cast at the General Membership Meeting on October 10th.

 Julie Courtade - Associate. Mortgage lender with First Place Bank. Worked in the banking industry for 25 years.
 Gary Jurkovich - Builder. CEO of Pathway Homes. Involved in the construction industry for over 20 years.
 Jim Valesano - Associate. Sales Manager for Architectural Elements. Has 17 years of local sales experience in the construction industry.

3rd SHOWCASE SUCCESSFUL

The weather was cool and sunny, making it a wonderful weekend for a leisurely drive through Leelanau and Grand Traverse Counties for the 3rd Annual Showcase of Remodeled Homes. Seven enterprising remodelers featured their special craft during the weekend. Each home reported a steady stream of traffic at their project location.

 October 12th- MUEC Seminar from 1:00 - -4:00 p.m. This 3- hour seminar is being sponsored by Michigan State University. The course fee will be discounted $20 because of the grant. Registration is $39 for members and $59 for non-members.
Health Issues for the Construction Industry - October 18th: This course will help educate and make the construction manager/worker aware of some typical occupational health rules, hazards and potential health effects that are associated with the construction trades industry. Topics include basic Industrial Hygiene, hazard communication, lead, silica, cadmium, carbon monoxide, asbestos, noise and respiratory protection. Students will be able to recognize potential problems with exposures and how to protect themselves with the use of engineering controls and personal protective equipment. This is a great opportunity to ask MIOSHA questions about your work environment. Cost is $25 Members and $40 Non-Members.

December 2, 9 and 16th from 8:30 -11:30 a.m.- MIOSHA 10-Hour Safety Seminar. This educational program will be offered on three consecutive Fridays.
