FALL MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Watch for more information on the upcoming HBAGTA Fall Membership Drive.

Greetings! ,

Kathy Maisonville

Look at What's Red, White and Blue

As summer begins to transition into fall, many of us are planning our last family get-together, envisioning a weekend getaway with friends or perhaps helping a college student pack an inordinate amount of "necessary stuff" into a too-small vehicle.  But amongst those important plans, I hope you will take time to execute an important duty as a citizen and that is your right to vote.

election graphicOn August 3rd, Michigan will be holding a crucial primary election.  Regardless of their political affiliation, our state association has been working diligently to promote pro-business and pro-housing legislators.  There will be an enormous turn-over next year and those you put in office could impact your personally and professionally.  Please take time to vote next Tuesday.  Note that every part of the adjacent map that is red will have a new State Senator next year!

SPRINKLERS DEFEATED - ARC FAULTS TBD

Sprinklers

At the recent Summer Convention of MAHB held in Frankenmuth, Lee Schwartz, EVP announced that he had received unofficial word from the Director of DELEG that sprinklers would not be mandated in the 2009 MRC.  This is indeed good news for contractors who have battled this issue on many fronts over the past few years.  However, as of this writing, no specific decision has been made regarding mandating arc-fault breakers.

NEW HOME SALES BOUNCE BACK IN JUNE

Coming off a historic low in May, sales of newly built, single-family homes rose 23.6% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 330,000 units in June, according to U.S. Commerce Department data released on July 26.

"The June numbers are an encouraging sign that new-home sales are coming back from an expected slow period that followed the expiration of the home buyer tax credit program," said NAHB Chairman Bob Jones. "While we still have quite a ways to go on the path to recovery, it's good to see that we are headed in the right direction."
