CREATING A POWERFUL ELEVATOR PITCH by John Assaraf

Create a Powerful Compelling Elevator Pitch

When people ask you what you do, do you know what to say?

If you've already learned about your ideal client profile and their decision-making process from our free videos on business strategies, then you can easily create a 30-second elevator pitch that articulates the exceptional value of your business.

When you create an elevator pitch, you need to know who you are talking to and what they want. Otherwise, your marketing message will fall on deaf ears. This is where the ideal client profile and the decision-making process will really come in to play.

First, state a problem that your ideal client is often dealing with. Start with "Do you know how..." and describe a problem that they are likely frustrated with.

Next, state what you do. "What we do is..." and then share how your product or service is a solution or benefit to your ideal client's problems.

If you've already worked on your ideal client profile and decision-making process, then you'll be able to easily come up with a good elevator pitch that...

Has a powerful and compelling message

Commands the attention of your ideal prospects

Pre-Qualifies your prospects

Helps you gain rapport and respect

An elevator pitch with these qualities will save you time, effort and expense.

People are looking for experts they can trust, and with our proven process you'll be able to create an elevator pitch that clearly and succinctly makes you the right choice for your prospects.

We're half way through our 20th Anniversary Parade of Homes. What a fabulous show we've had thus far!  The traffic has been strong and the attendees extremely impressed with the quality and the variety of our elite builders' homes.  If you've not had an opportunity to visit these showplaces, please consider doing so soon.  The Parade will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 25-27th from noon until 9 p.m.  Sunday, June 28th is the last day of the 2009 Parade with hours running from noon until 5 p.m.  Tickets which are $10 are still available at each ticket outlet and also at each home.  You may wish to look at the Parade Plan Book which is a dynamic flip book this year on line.  Check it out at www.hbagta.com/paradeofhomes.

Most of us have cleared off our calendar of meetings for much of the summer to focus on the business of building and remodeling, as well as selling and servicing our many products.  However, on July 22nd, there is an important hearing in Lansing that deserves considerable attention, especially from our builder members.  This involves meeting with the state's building code review committee regarding the sprinkler mandate.
MAHB is asking that each association send 5 members to the hearing.  If you are willing to attend, please contact me at the HBA office at 946-2305.

Right now, we need to hear from builders and remodelers, especially those who work in the lower end/affordable housing market.  If you have quotes available for the installation of a sprinkler system in an individual home, it is important that the Governmental Relations team at MAHB have that info as soon as possible.  Arguments against this adoption will be more convincing with hard data.

Also, on Monday, June 29th, the Legislative Committee will be holding a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. at the HBA office to talk about the sprinkler issue, the status of the Grand Traverse County Septage Plant investigation and new ELG recommendations for land developments.  All members are welcome.

As always . . together we are building a stronger Association.

EXPERTS IN THE HOME BUILDING INDUSTRY

If you aren't an expert, your perceived value diminishes, you won't get as many opportunities and it will be hard to position yourself for success.

HEARING SET ON MANDATORY SPRINKLERS - HOW YOU CAN HELP

SprinklersNew fire sprinkler mandate threatens affordable housing.  Here's how you can help.   The hearing on mandatory fire sprinklers will be held Wednesday, July 22 at 9 AM in the Forum Room of the Library of Michigan, 702 West Kalamazoo Street, Lansing.   You can participate in three (3) ways:

1.  By driving to Lansing and testifying at the hearing.  Once you have arrived there will be sign-in sheet just inside the door.  Just sign your name and the organization (if any) you represent.  Then take a seat and wait for your name to be called.  However, be aware testimony will be limited to three minutes per person.

2.  By sending a letter in opposition to mandating sprinklers.  These can be sent by you, your organization and your clients.  These letters should be mailed to:

Mr. Irvin Poke
Director, Bureau of Construction Codes
Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth
Post Office Box 30254
Lansing, Michigan 48909

Click here for a sample letter to use.  Please utilize your letterhead, sign, and send to the above address.

3.   By talking to your building officials, inspectors, and affordable housing advocates on this issue.

Each local association has been asked to provide 5 members who will testify at the hearing on July 22nd.   Please let me know if you would be willing to travel to Lansing and speak against mandatory sprinklers.
