Greetings! ,

Greetings on this beautiful St. Patrick's Day !

The promise of spring is in the air!  Although there is talk of a bit more white stuff later this week, I can't help but feel invigorated.  Just as this season marks a period of growth and renewal, our association is poised as well to for significant changes in the coming months.

While things around us start to "green up", we again turn our attention to the greening of the industry.  The Green Build Grand Traverse Committee will be sponsoring the April 13th Builder Forum at the Waterfront.  The NAHB-Green Standards will be unveiled and builders and subcontractors will get specific instructions about how to certify a single family or multi-family home under the new program.  In addition, details about verifying commercial construction and remodeling projects will be provided.  Please mark your calendars now.  Save the date!

Our Parade Committee continues to work diligently on this the 20th Anniversary Parade of Homes & Developments.  Although it may be a bit smaller than in recent years, it still promises to be a banner event bringing thousands of visitors and potential buyers to our area.  The unique quality and craftsmanship of the northern Michigan homes designed and built by our members is still a big drawing card.  Builders interested in featuring one of their newly constructed homes, or one built some time ago that has yet to be occupied, please contact the HBA office as soon as possible.  Our deadline is April 17th.  This is also the final date to submit advertising for the Parade Plan Book.

But if you don't have a home ready for the Parade, there may be another opportunity to feature your craftsmanship and quality.  As many realize, remodeling seems to capture a large portion of the builder activity.  The association is beginning to explore the feasibility of a fall Showcase of Remodeled Homes.  While plans are still very incomplete, our goal is to promote our builders and subcontractors that have created some spectacular remodeling projects.  If you have interest in participating, please let me know.

Together, we are building a stronger association!

SEEKING FEEDBACK ON THE STIMULUS BILL

The Lucky O'Leary FamilyAs the NAHB Officer Team noted in a recent all member communication, the Leadership of your Association would like to hear from you regarding your thoughts and concerns about the recently passed economic stimulus bill. NAHB has become increasingly aware that many of you have concerns over certain provisions of what is now known as "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009," and NAHB's role in the final outcome.

To assist in this communication, NAHB has set up a series of regional calls with the broad NAHB Leadership -- Directors, Local and State Presidents, State Representatives, National Area Chair, and Executive Officers.  As part of this Leadership Team we wanted to provide you the details on how to participate in these critical discussions.  Regional Call Times and participation instructions are noted below:
Wednesday, March 18
Region C       2:00 PM (EDT)/1:00 PM (CDT)
                        Area 6: KY, OH, WV

2009 PARADE OF HOMES AND DEVELOPMENTS

parade2009 PARADE OF HOMES AND DEVELOPMENTS

JUNE 20-28, 2009

To encourage builder participation and to make it more affordable:
  • we have reduced the builder and developer application fee to a flat rate of $1500.
  • The deadline for Parade applications and advertising has also been extended until April 17th.
  • Advertising costs for the Parade Plan Book have been reduced considerably in order to ensure the broadest representation of our members in the publication.
  • In addition, those who place full page ads will also be entitled to additional logo sponsor advertising once a month for six months in the Tuesday Toolbox.
  • The plan book pages will also turn gracefully one by one on our new website.  This electronic version will be posted for a year so the advertising value for our builders and associates extends beyond the event itself.

We hope you will consider participating this year in some way - as a builder, supplier or advertiser.  Lots of folks do have the resources and are interested in buying or remodeling.

We're not going to let any pessimist "Rain on Ourumbrella Parade!"

For more information on the 2009 Parade, contact Kerry at the HBAGTA Office.
