Greetings! ,
How do we add value to your membership? Are we providing you with the tools to manage your business during these tough economic times? These questions are among many that the Association's leadership ask when determining what services the HBAGTA should have in place for our members.
While the Association can't be all things to all people, we have worked to develop or change some of our programs based on member feedback. For example, we know that networking is a valuable tool to develop your business. We also know that a regular meeting format can get stale. That is why we are holding our November General Membership Meeting at Floor Covering Brokers on Monday, November 10, 2008. This will be a networking event with heavy hors d'oevres and complimentary cocktails. The event will begin at 4:30 pm with vendors presenting information about green flooring options. The networking event will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. We ask that you RSVP BEFORE November 6 to adequately plan for this event.
Included in this week's newsletter are different opportunties to save your business money - whether it's gas for your fleet, credit card processing or rebates on building products, these are excellent ways to reduce your business expenses. And lastly, this is the time of year to think about how you might get involved in your Association. Look at the events that our Association sponsors and find a way that you can participate. MAHB MEMBER REBATE PROGRAM |

Whether you are already taking advantage of this program, or waiting on the sidelines, reading this information can help put money in your pocket!
When the state (MAHB) began this program, they did not know what to expect. They knew the potential was certainly there, but would it pay off? The results are in and there are a lot of happy Builders! The average rebate amount per Builder in the MAHB Member Rebate Program is $643.06 which makes participating a profitable decision!
Since its introduction there have been many new manufacturers that have joined the program adding new product categories and more money to the quarterly checks. Check out the current manufacturers in the program. MAHB will continue to add new manufacturers making the program even better.
If you have not taken advantage of the program, now is the time! You can register or simply print the registration form by downloading the attached document, print page 6 and fax it to the program's toll free number - (800) 977-5591. The current claim forms are on page 7 & 8. You can claim for all homes closed or finished from April 1st to September 30th, 2008. Remember, you do not need to send in receipts!

2009 EXPO |

The 2009 EXPO will be held on February 14 & 15 at Traverse City East Middle School.
EXPO Contracts have been sent to all HBAGTA members who participated in last year's event. EXPO Booth rentals will be open to all HBAGTA members in good standing beginning November 6, 2008.
NEW THIS YEAR!
The Silver Hall will now house "Green Vendors" and will be renamed the "Green Hall".

BUILDERS CONTINUING COMPETENCY |

Public Act 157 of 2007 will begin requiring continuing competency for existing Builders and Maintenance and Alterations Contractors beginning January 1, 2009. To learn more about the requirements of this bill, visit the State of Michigan web site at:
The HBAGTA will be offering continuing competency courses through the MAHB Proprietary School, BEST of Michigan. If you choose to take courses at another location or by another provider, please verify that the courses or provider have been approved by the State of Michigan. Be advised that these schools must be approved by the State for you to get credit for your continuing competency. |

For many years, the manufacturing world has enjoyed the efficiencies and other benefits of standardized, documented quality management programs like ISO-9000. And, in the last decade, there were several attempts to mirror those practices in the home building industry, but with very limited success. The recent outreach regarding support for the presidential candidates has resulted in many of our members opting out of receiving NAHB e-mail, a request that NAHB must honor. However, we encourage members to continue to communicate and allow NAHB to communicate with them via e-mail as we want to make certain members have the opportunity to take advantage of the many benefits of membership that are communicated via email. |
