Greetings! ,
Kathy Maisonville
A quick note to let you know how much we appreciate your participation and support in the Home Builders Association of the Grand Traverse Area!  Attendance at General Membership Meetings has been phenomenal, committees are working hard to produce our signature events, the Professional Development program is setting new records and everybody has been upbeat and positive when dealing with the current economic challenges.  Your membership in the HBAGTA means more now than ever.  We need to face these challenges together to become an unstoppable force.  Continue to stay involved - attend meetings, join a committee and participate in our premier events, the EXPO and Parade of Homes. The more opportunity you have to expose your business to the membership and community, the more likely your name will be fresh in their minds when asked for a referral.

Please note the November General Membership Meeting will be a Networking event at Floor Covering Brokers.  We look forward to seeing you there!

As always, we are building a stronger association!

MAHB MEMBER REBATE PROGRAM

Whether you are already taking advantage of this program, or waiting on the sidelines, reading this information will help put much needed money in your pocket!

When the state (MAHB) began this program, they did not know what to expect.  They knew the potential was certainly there, but would it pay off?  The results are in and there are a lot of happy Builders!  The average rebate amount per Builder in the MAHB Member Rebate Program is $643.06 which makes participating a profitable decision!

Since its introduction there have been many new Manufacturers that have joined the program adding new product categories and more money to the quarterly checks.  Check out the current Manufacturers in the  program.  MAHB will continue to add new Manufacturers making the program even better.

If you have not taken advantage of the program, now is the time!  You can register online or simply print the registration form by downloading the attached document, print page 6 and fax it to the program's toll free number - (800) 977-5591.  The current claim forms are on page 7 & 8.  You can claim for all homes closed or finished from April 1st to September 30th.  Remember, you do not need to send in receipts!

AGING IN PLACE BRIGHT SPOT FOR HOUSING

Aging-in-place renovation work is expected to provide one of the bright spots for residential construction as the recession-battered industry eventually begins gaining ground, according to panelists at last month's Remodeling Show in Baltimore. They also pointed out that communication with elderly home owners will be key to success in this segment of the marketplace, and that is why builders should consider teaming up with occupational therapists.

Members of the post-World War II baby boom are fast approaching traditional retirement years with the advantages of a longer life, more wealth and better education than previous generations, said Michael O'Neal, an urban sociologist with AARP, and surveys by his organization suggest that the great majority of this population will be looking for remodeling jobs that enable them to continue living in their existing homes.

By 2030, there will be more than 70 million Americans who are 65 and older, more than twice as many as today, O'Neal said. The first boomer turned 60 in 2006 and the last will turn 65 in 2039.

AARP polling has found that 84% of people who are 50 and older would prefer to reside in their existing home and within their existing community, said O'Neal. However, "only 16% have made modifications to be safe and comfortable in their home."

Studies on mobility show that 90% of those who are 50+ stay put in their existing home, he said, and the 10% who do move tend not to go far from the area in which they have established roots.
