THOUGHTFUL WORDS

"These are challenging times with AIG begging for help from the Government. Banks being forced to sell out for peanuts or fail.

As I watch this carnage all around me I'm making a list of the things I can control. They are: My Attitude - My Activity - My Knowledge.

Things may get better and they may get worse but one thing I know is as long as I focus on these 3 things there will be plenty of business for me to earn."

BENZIE COUNTY INFORMATION MEETING

You are invited to Public Informational meeting to be held jointly by the County Parks and Recreation and Planning Commissions to provide input on Recreation, Historical, and Cultural Services in Benzie County. The meeting will be held on October 27, 2008, 7:00 p.m. at the new Lower Level Room of the Mills Community House (below the Benzonia Library).  In case of on-site parking shortages, additional parking is available across US 31 (Michigan Avenue) in the Park, by the Crystal Lake Elementary School, Post Office, and on Traverse Avenue (River Road) east and west of US 31.

Given the importance of our Recreational, Historical, and Cultural Resources, Services, and related festivals, etc. to area citizens as well as tourism and related small businesses, the Benzie County Parks and Recreation Commission and Planning Commission extend a hand to each Stakeholder Group or Government to participate in the above meeting.  Such groups include:  Townships, Villages, City of Frankfort, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore-NPS, Benzie Central and Frankfort Elberta Area School Systems, Crystal Lake Arts Association, G.T. Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Pere Marquette State Forest Foresters and Planners, area Art Galleries, Area Libraries, the Platte Grange, area Historical Societies and other related informal groups, Betsie Valley Trail Council and Friends, Friends of the Point Betsie Light House, Mills Community House, etc.

Area Governments and School systems are the major provider of recreation services and facilities, as are a number of private non-profit, special interest groups, etc. that are numerous and often unknown.  You have received this message as you are one of the known representatives of a major stakeholder group that owns or operates a passive or active recreation, historic or cultural facility and/or provides related educational and/or other services.

As indicated the Benzie County Parks And Recreation Commission and Planning Commission are seeking your input in the first of its kind County-wide Planning Process.  It represents the 3rd Recreation Plan and its 2nd update, but the 1st attempt at addressing important Historical and Cultural resources and services.

Benzie County stakeholders already provide these facilities and services in collaborative fashion out of necessity, but we need to find out where the needs are and further address those that are a high priority in the Community.

I know I have missed some groups with this message so please feel free to forward this message to others.  If you do forward the message, please email me any of those contacts which we can use in our database in the future to dneiger@benzieco.net.

Thank you in advance for your participation and attendance.
