FEATURED SERMON

Risk Assessment

This sermon was preached by the Rev. Richmond Webster on Sunday, June 6, 2010 and is based on John 7:11-17.

This past weekend I went, like many of you, on vacation with my family. This time we chose the mountains over the coast, which means we enjoyed three days of driving rain.

We've been to the mountains in the rain before, with children and rain before, so we have come to rely on time tested "fall back" options: board games, cards, movies, and a particular favorite, rafting down the Nantahala River.

Parish-Wide VBS Event!

This Wednesday, June 9 5:30 pm Graham Hall

All are invited to a fun evening to see what our children have been doing on Saddle Ridge Ranch, our Vacation Bible School program. A light supper will be served.

Remember VBS in Your Prayers!

Please continue  to pray for all of our sweet children attending Vacation Bible School this week.  We pray that all of the children, those from Saint Luke's and those from outside the parish will come to know the love of Jesus more fully. Pray also for our volunteer teachers and our teen workers!

Thank you from 55th Place!

Thank you to all who donated items at our May intake for 55th Place. We had five pickup truck loads of donations! Your response was overwhelming!

                 --Emmy McGowin

Facilities Manager's Notes

Our in-house recycling is going so well that we are acquiring another ninety-gallon recycling bin for our needs. As you may have noticed, the columbarium is undergoing a complete replanting of sod and plantings along the outside perimeter. Thank you for your patience in this process; the result will be lovely and worth the wait!

--John Burgess, Saint Luke's Facilities Manager

STEWARDSHIP OF CREATION

Be aware of microwaving food and drinks in plastic. Many contain potentially carcinogenic chemicals and endocrine disruptors that can leach into food and drink. Watch out for styrofoam, PVC based cling wrap, and polycarbonate plastic (hard plastics). Glass containers are the safest. When choosing plastic drink containers for adults and (especially) children make sure they say BPA free.
