FEATURED SERMON

Everything Has Changed!

This sermon was preached by the Rev. Richmond Webster on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 and is based on 1 Corinthians 15:19-26.

Listening Hearts Book Study

Drawing on centuries of Christian literature and "the silence of prayerful listening," this book shows how to recognize and define God's call.  It explains how to recognize and define God's call.  It explains how to eliminate barriers and prepare one's heart to receive that call while remaining faithful and attentive to God's voice.  It also tells how a faith community can be a source of support to those who are discerning what God is saying to them. This model of discernment is based on the popular book Listening Hearts.

Listening Hearts book-study 3 will be on Wednesday evening, 5:30 pm in the small dining room, beginning April 7 with additiional sessions on April 14, 21, May  5 & 12.  Pick up your supper in Graham Hall and bring it to class in the Small Dining Room. We will have class and "break bread" together.  Following class, conclude your day by attending Wednesday Night Eucharist at 6:30 pm.

PASTORAL CARE

Ever Thought about Becoming a Stephen Minister?

Saint Luke's plans to launch a training class for another group of Stephen ministers next fall. Stephen ministers support the pastoral care ministry of our church, working alongside our clergy to care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time, such as divorce, grief, hospitalization, unemployment, terminal illness, relocation, chronic illness, or loneliness.

Becoming a Stephen minister is a demanding but rewarding calling. A minimum commitment of two years is called for, which begins with the successful completion of a five month-long weekly training class. A Stephen minister is paired with a care receiver, with whom the Stephen minister is expected to meet on a regular basis. Stephen ministers also meet twice each month as a whole group for case supervision and training. If you have gifts for caring, encouragement, and listening, and are prepared to meet the time requirements, we invite you to prayerfully consider whether God might be calling you to this challenging ministry. If you think you might be interested, talk with Fr. Steve DeGweck (802-6203) who can provide you with more information and an application. Interviews will begin later this summer.

Love One Another As I Have Loved You . . .

In John 15:12, Jesus says, "'This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.'" Loving and caring for one another is not just the pastor's job--it's something Jesus calls us all to do! Stephen Ministry is a ministry in which people with special gifts for caring ministry can put those gifts to use in an organized way, bringing Jesus' love and care to those who most need it.

If you--or someone you know--are going through a difficult time contact one of our Stephen Leaders about Stephen Ministry. Our Stephen Ministers are ready to provide you with focused, confidential, one-to-one Christian care and to help you experience the healing power of Christ's love in your life. To find out more about Stephen Ministry for you or someone you know, talk with Fr. Steve DeGweck (802-6203).
