Dear Friends,

 

This past Monday, I helped a technician with a "sound check" in the nave of our church. Amplification has been a problem since the building of Saint Luke's, and many thousands of dollars have been spent over the decades in order to make the spoken word audible. Each week seems to bring new problems, new challenges.

 

This past Sunday's problem is now fixed, he assured me, but the solution this day is only a "band aid." I'm told the system is worn out, like a luxury car that is now two decades old, with out- dated technology all held together with bailing wire. This news just in time for Christmas... (Read more)

Please note: The Junior League chorus  is now singing at 11:00 rather than 11:30, and lunch will follow.  Please call (802-6218) for reservations no later than Wednesday, December 16 at noon.

Christmas Pageant

All are invited to this delightful pageant featuring children of all ages!
  Christmas Day Dinner
 
We will offer our traditional Christmas Day Dinner on Friday, December 25th at noon, right after the Christmas Day service. The dinner will be catered this year, and thus there is no need to bring anything but a smile, some Christmas cheer, and a good appetite! There is no cost. The menu will consist of turkey, traditional side dishes, beverage, and dessert. Everyone is invited, but we must ask for reservations by December 21 in order to plan effectively. Camp McDowell CD

Just in time for Christmas---are you looking for something uplifting to upload to your i-pod?  Look no further, the Camp McDowell CD is here and for a short-time only, all proceeds will benefit BOTH the Camp McDowell Scholarship Fund and our own Saint Luke's Day School.  The CD (recorded here at Saint Luke's, featuring Alleluia II standards and old Camp favorites) will be on sale in the Claypool Commons on Sunday before and after Sunday school.  For more information contact Chrissie Goldman (803-5245 or ceh205@hotmail.com).

Our Children's Christmas Pageant is this Sunday, December 20 at 9:15 am in the Nave. Children need to be in the rooms listed below no later than 8:45 am!

*3K, 4K, & 5K children will dress as animals for the manger scene. Please wear your own costume.
* 1st & 2nd graders will dress as angels. Please wear something with lots of white.
* 3rd graders will dress as shepherds. Costumes will be provided.
*4th graders will dress as wise people. Costumes will be provided.
*5th graders will take various parts. Please wear your Sunday clothes.

This class is for Young Adults by a Young Adult! We will be looking at the biggest news of the week and how those current events affect your life. Some of the issues we'll find in the Sunday Paper will address the biggest questions we face as Christians, such as: war, atheism, religious violence, social ethics, and more!  BHN Christmas Cards
 
Birmingham Hospitality Network (BHN) is sellling Christmas cards. The cost is $10 for a pack of ten cards. Five different designs are available, each one created by a homeless child. The inside is blank, so you may write your own note. Your Stamps Can
Be A Blessing!

Please save your cancelled and uncancelled stamps, and bring them to the reception desk in the Commons. A paraplegic young man supports himself by selling these stamps. ALL stamps can be used as long as the stamp is whole. This is an easy, inexpensive service project for your children, Bible study, or other groups. Please call John Bird (870-7407) if you need more information.
 Coats And Jackets
For Grace/Woodlawn
 
Once again, we are collecting coats and jackets for the families who use Grace/Woodlawn food pantry. Please bring any used (clean and in good condition) coats and jackets to the closet in Graham Hall. As you enter Graham Hall from the Commons, the closet is located on the left side of the entrance. Please hang the adult coats, and place the children's coats in the marked box. All sizes of coats will be appreciated, both children's and adults. Thank you!
