Sunday Lectionary Readings July 19 Seventh Sunday After Pentecost, Year B
2 Samuel 7:1-14a Psalm 89:20-37 Ephesians 2:11-22 Mark 6:30-34, 53-56
Almighty God,
the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask
and our ignorance
in asking:
Have compassion
on our weakness,
and mercifully
give us those things
which for our unworthiness we dare not,
and for our blindness
we cannot ask;
through the worthiness
of your Son Jesus Christ
our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

If you know someone who needs to continue receiving the Dialogue by regular mail, please contact Nancy Cain (ncain@saint-lukes.com or 802-6200). Thank you!

Adult Education
Sneak Preview For Fall!
Our first three Sundays this fall, we will hear a report from the Rev. Richmond Webster on the Continuum of Discipleship at Saint Luke's with special emphasis on the first leg of our Christian journey: Meeting Jesus. In keeping with this theme, on Wednesday nights we'll gather for an engaging and thought-provoking introduction to Jesus Christ through the films of Rob Bell. Many who enjoyed these films in Sunday school say they look forward to watching them again, and there are several we haven't seen yet. On Sunday mornings, in the fall, look for a class on parenting, new and improved based on last fall's experience, and, of course, a class on the lectionary readings. Does this whet your appetite? Look for more information on more fall offerings in the weeks to come!

Camp Fire USA
Lumpy mattresses, mosquito bites, late-night whispering, ice-cold colas from the canteen and Marco- Polo games at the pool... if you've ever gone to summer camp, you will recognize these experiences, and maybe even get a little nostalgic for those fun-filled days of your youth. Thanks to the generosity of the 2009 Saint Luke's Outreach grant, two additional children will have a chance to attend residential camp at Camp Fire USA's Camp Fletcher. Patrena McNeil is a disabled mother who wanted her young sons to have some fun this summer without worrying about her. Ms. McNeil delivered the applications for assistance herself and was delightful. When our scholarship administrator called to award her the scholarship funds, she could hear the excitement of the boys in the background. This family was truly deserving and appreciative of this donation. While summer camp is one of the core programs at Camp Fire, we also provide a number of different youth development programs in the community, and we are always in need of volunteers. The following is a summary of the most pressing volunteer needs at Camp Fire: Links-Up Mentoring
Small-group mentoring sessions in Birmingham and Shelby County elementary and middle schools. Minimum volunteer commitment is one hour per week for at least one semester. Ideal volunteer age: 18 - 25. Volunteers must attend a three-hour group training sessions prior to working in the program. To learn more, contact reneeb@campfire-al.org
Self-Reliance Instructors
Camp Fire offers several different courses to children in kindergarten through fifth grade. These programs teach children to make good choices in a variety of situations. Ideal volunteer age: 18 or older. Volunteers initially work with staff to learn the program, with a goal of delivering the program on their own. To learn more, contact fquinney@campfire-al.org
