Sneak Preview for Fall!

Our first three Sundays this fall, we will hear a report from the Rev. Richmond Webster on the Continuum of Discipleship at Saint Luke's with special emphasis on the first leg of our Christian journey: Meeting Jesus. In keeping with this theme, on Wednesday nights we'll gather for an engaging and thought-provoking introduction to Jesus Christ through the films of Rob Bell. Many who enjoyed these films in Sunday school say they look forward to watching them again, and there are several we haven't seen yet. On Sunday mornings, in the fall, look for a class on parenting, new and improved based on last fall's experience, and, of course, a class on the lectionary readings. Does this whet your appetite? Look for more information on more fall offerings in the weeks to come!

Claypool Scholarship Awards

The Claypool Scholarship Committee met in April to review applications for the 2009/2010 school year. We have selected Grier Darnall and Louise McGowin as the two new recpients.

Miss Darnall is a student at Mountain Brook High School and will graduate this spring. Grier plans to attend Vanderbilt University next fall. Miss McGowin is a student at UMC-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile and will attend college in North Carolina this fall. Both young ladies had outstanding records and achievement in their high school careers, and we are happy to be in a position to award them with a partial scholarship.

In addition, the committee has chosen to renew scholarships for Kaki Nix who attends Davidson College, Ann Watford who attends Sewanee -The University of the South, Andrew Timberlake who attends Yale University, and Elizabeth Morton who attends the University of Alabama. All of these students had outstanding records again this past year, and met all of the renewal requirements for the Claypool Scholarship program.

It is a pleasure to work with these young people; we are proud of their achievements and the work that they have accomplished. We are glad to be associated with each of them through the Claypool Scholarship program.

Congratulations to all of these fine students!

The funding of the Claypool Scholarship Program comes through Saint Luke's Episcopal Church Foundation. The Foundation Board handles all of the funds for this program.

Additional funding is needed to continue this program, and in particular, to try and raise the amount of the scholarship for each of these students each year. If you have more interest in the Claypool Scholarship program, please contact Betty O'Neil at the church (802-6201) or John Darnall (714-1012). We can use the help!
