Your team mom or coach should provide you with details about your potluck item. The fun activities will include honoring our seniors, teams, and a few surprises! See more below...

campOur Summer Camp information has been posted and we look forward to a great summer learning how to get even better at volleyball before the upcoming school season. Our camps will be challenging, fun and give you the opportunity to focus on specific areas of improvement. See more below...

NEW College Commitments!

Erin Roberts   -   Palomar Junior College
mens
From Coach Angie
- "As a co-captain, Erin brought a lot of talent and life to our team this season. She was aggressive at the net and could hit deep corners, making her a key player in both the middle and opposite.  Unfortunately, she tore her ACL in the middle of the season and had to take a break. However, she did not let it get her down."

"Erin still showed up to every practice with a smile on her face and enthusiasm for her teammates. She was a delight to have around, always cheering and keeping everyone pumped up. Thank you, Erin for sticking with the team and being a great leader. Good luck with your surgery... heal quick! Best of luck at Palomar!"

From coach Dana -
"Erin is a long-time Viper member and one of our most enthusiastic players. She brings her fun attitude to everything she does, even when she's injured. Though Erin has been hurt for half of the season she has continued to come to practices and support her team and help coach. Thanks Erin for all your support. We wish you the best at Palomar!"

Caroline Chick  -  UCLA
caroline
From Coach Angie - "Caroline, aka, "Chick," played a very key role on our 18s team this year. She was our starting libero and a primary passer for us. Caroline's high energy, communication, and quickness on the court was crucial for our defense. She never let the ball hit the floor and was always positive to everyone around her. It is no question why I had quite a few colleges asking me about her. However, there comes a time when you are ready to move into new chapters in your life.Good luck with academics at UCLA, Caroline! I know you will do great and continue to soar!"

From Caroline - I picked UCLA because for one, it's UCLA, and because it's really a great school. They have every fun thing and scholarly thing imaginable, and I'm excited to go to a huge school--it'll be new for me. I'm going to start out studying sociology. I'm really excited to decorate my dorm room! I'm not playing on UCLA's volleyball team, but as soon as I see a sign-up sheet for intramural volleyball, I'll be writing my name down so fast it'll be scary.

From coach Dana -
"This was Caroline's first year with us and she really did a terrific job of leading her team as libero this season. Though she had opportunities to play in college, she decided to put her academic pursuits at the top of the list and is heading to UCLA. She is going to wow the teachers there with her work ethic and beautiful voice. Good luck Chick!"
______________________________________________________________________

Natalie Cadmus   -   Riverside Community College

mensFrom Coach Angie - "It is no question why her nickname is "Sparky."  Natalie brings high energy and spark to the floor every time she steps on the court.  Her fire and enthusiasm is contagious to everyone around her."

"Natalie is a very smart player and I know she will be a key addition at Riverside Community College! Go Natalie! We will miss you at Viper! Keep smashing those slides and 3s!"

From coach Dana -  "Natalie is a great competitor and always wants to make the play when the game is on the line. She has brought 100% to every practice since she started with Viper years ago. We know she will succeed at Riverside Community College and be an impact player and person. Good luck Natalie!"

Jaclyn Fields    -    Palomar Junior College

jaclynhitJaclyn has played many years with Temecula Volleyball Club. She improved so much this season and showed her incredible commitment and teamwork this year. Jaclyn is a small but talented player and though she had scholarship opportunities out of state, she decided to stay close to home and go to Palomar. She will be a big asset to their program and bringjaclynhead not only great volleyball skills but a great attitude and committment. Jaclyn played 4 years for Murrieta Valley H.S. and was First Team All-League her senior year. Congrats Jaclyn!

From Jaclyn Fields
I decided on Palomar Community College because it is a good school and will help me get done with my general education so I can transfer to a four year.
I am most excited about meeting a whole bunch of new people and trying out for the volleyball team

From coach Dana -  "Jaclyn has grown so much this year and has really shown a tremendous commitment to herself and teammates. Though she had opportunities to continue playing outside California, she decided that close to home is where her heart is and I respect Jaclyn for making the right decisions for herself. Her commitment and love of the game will add a lot to the team at Palomar Jr. College. Good luck Jaclyn!"

Carissa Yaminishi   -   Cal Poly San Luis Obispo!

carissaserveCarissa has only been with Temecula Volleyball Club for 1 year but she has been playing volleyball for a long time. She is both a setter and defensive specialist and has excelled in both positions. Not only is she a great volleyball player, but she is committed to her school work and is a member of the National Honor Society. Though she had scholarship opportunities, she decided to stay in California. She does not plan to play in college, but you never know!

So many times this season she came onto the court and made an immediate impact with her deadly serves and quick feet! Carissa also understands the importance of communication and leadership and I know she will succeed at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and beyond. Good luck Carissa!"

Vipers on the Beach!

mens

What? Vipers on the Beach? Yup, that's the way we do it! Many of our young players are going to the beach on the weekends to compete and play on the sand, and this is going to be the new NEWS update for our beach kids. Please send Dana photos and stories from your beach play this summer!

Julia, Chelsea, Sarah and Lacey from the 12-Elite team played in their first tournament! Maddy competed in her 2nd tournament and all these girls are off to a great start this summer both learning how to play and having fun!

Brooke Short, Devyn Prichard, Rebecca Thebeau and Rylee Kiger
from 13-Elite played last weekend and took their game to the Sand!!

Annika and Amanda from 14-Elite also played in their first tournament, tying for 3rd in the CBVA Newport tournament.

Morgan and Courtney played in the Mission Beach and Ocean Beach tournaments together and lost in the 2nd round of playoffs each time.

Taylor Johnson played in a number of tournaments:
May 10 - took first place in the Gold Medal AAU/USA Volleyball Southern Pacific Championship
May 24 - took 4th place in the adult A rated tournament - they beat 3 team made up of college players and other made up of adults! Great job!
May 31 - got the 2nd place silver medal at the AAU/USA Volleyball Southern Championship
Highlight - Taylor was asked to be on the High Performance Beach Volleyball team competing this summer for USA Volleyball (but declined due to scheduling).

Dana Backlund from the 16-Elite team earned her AA the last weekend in May with partner Sarah. Dana also played in a AA tournament with coach Dana. The competition was stiff and without any practice they lost all three matches. It sure was fun though and the beach was beautiful!

We are faced with "problems" on the volleyball court in practice everyday. What does that really mean? We (each member of the team and the coach) have been challenged to find the answer, even if it is one that requires great effort and determination.

Player Spotlight
Kelsy Yunker

by Angie Erdmann

BrooklynMiss. Kelsy Yunker is a Senior, Co-Captain on 18-Angie, and has demonstrated excellence on and off the volleyball court. As a club, we would like to recognize her as a Viper Volleyball "Athlete in the Spotlight" for the month of June.

Kelsy has been a Varsity stand out for her four years at Paloma Valley High School and has great goals for an even brighter future. I had the honor of having an exclusive interview with Kelsy and here is what she had to say:

AE: How old are you?
KY: I am 17. I turn 18 on Monday!(June 8th) Then I graduate on Saturday!

AE: What position do you play?
KY: Outside Hitter

AE: How long have you been in the Viper program?
KY: 4 years

AE: How long have you been playing volleyball?
KY: 5 years. Since 8th grade.

AE: What are your plans for next year?
KY: I hope to play volleyball somewhere. Simpson University in Redding, CA is my #1 choice. I am starting to apply for grants.

AE: What made you decide to start playing volleyball?
KY: I played softball my whole life. I was a pitcher. When I found out the middle school was starting a program I thought, 'Oh, I should try that, so I did, and fell in love with it. Then, I quit softball,' she laughs.

AE: What do you do to get prepared for a match?
KY: Well, the night before a match(I learned this from Rochelle) I picture myself doing ten perfect passes and ten different hits. In the morning, I try not to be too nervous, but get motivated by motivating the team. That gets me fired up.

AE: There are a lot of ups and downs during a volleyball match. What do you do/think to stay positive?
KY: Hmmm... what do I do? I think to myself, 'It's fine, it's okay.' I also make sure to give atleast one person a high five and make sure I stay in my captain role of being positive. I cheer on my team, saying, 'let's side out.'
 kelschick
AE: Who is your favorite music artist?
KY: I don't really have one.
AE: Okay, well what kind of music gets you pumped up for a match?
KY: Upbeat Hip Hop or Techno.

AE: What is your favorite food? Favorite Restaurant?
KY: Manicotti. And Johnny Carinos. The Lemon Chicken is delicious... I love Lemon Chicken.

AE: What are your plans for the future?
KY: To go to college, #1, hopefully get into Physical Therapy/Athletic Training, work for a long time, and then 'maybe get married and have a family. But not for a longggg time,' she laughs.

AE: What do you want to do for a career?
KY: My goal is to be a Physical Therapist, have my own practice, then open up a gym inside. I wanted to do Personal Training in there too, but I don't know if I will have time so, I will just have to hire people to do it for me.

AE: What is the biggest goal you have accomplished that you are most proud of?
KY: Making the Varsity team all four years in high school, working my way up to being a team captain and then executing that role.

AE: What is your dream?
KY: I dream of playing with the Olympic Team.

AE: Who is one person you really admire and why? Who is your hero?
KY: My Mom. Even through the hardest times in our lives she's always supportive and she's always been there for us. She has always been there for me. She can always make me laugh and smile.

AE: Any advice you want to give to the younger Viper Volleyball girls?
KY: Start the recruiting process early. Don't procrastinate. Stay positive and stay true to yourself.
AE: What do you mean stay true to yourself?
KY: Don't let anyone tell you who you should be or what they want you to be.

Thank you, Kelsy!
On behalf of the Viper Volleyball Club Program
we wish you the best of luck in the future!!!
You are going to continue to move mountains!

Keep it Clean - Trash & Recycle Recycle photos

Coaches, players and parents please help us to keep our great facility clean & environmentally friendly. We encourage you to take HOME all your plastic bottles to ensure they get recycled. Do not leave them at Rancho unless a recycling team collects them from you at practice.

We have had a problem with a lot of trash the past few weeks and would like to remind you to check your area for any trash. Even if it's not yours, pick it up and throw in a nearby bin.
