Did You Know...
It's a great time for dormant pruning to thin overgrown shrubs!

Proper removal of old, brown stems from the Red twig dogwood now will boost the amount of red stems next season.

Our pruning experts are available to help with all your pruning needs!
Snow Removal for Shrubs
While snow can be a great insulator and provide moisture to plants in the winter, the ice or weight resulting from it can be damaging to shrubs.

Shrubs under a roof line should be tended to frequently, to avoid accumulation.

Fallen snow can also melt and freeze, bending or stressing the branches.

Proper snow removal techniques are important to protect the health of shrubs.

February, 2012
Greetings!

The snow may be on its way, but the good news is that our gardens and landscapes appreciate the moisture! The other great news is that we're gaining about three extra minutes of daylight every day at this point in the season. Regardless of what's ahead, we can trust that the heralds of Spring are right around the corner!

In the meantime, we recommend snow removal for the protection of the delicate branches and health of your shrubs. Let us know if we can take care of this for you.

Our countdown to Spring is in full swing, and we are rapidly closing in on our planting plans. Be sure to let us know of any special requests you may have this year as soon as possible.  It's not too early to schedule your needs for graduation parties and other summer events!

If you don't have a veggie garden yet, or wondered how to have one, read more below about the various ways we can help. Give new meaning to 'eating local' this year! Even the infusion of a few edibles into certain areas of your landscape can be fun and rewarding!

Our team of horticultural designers has been busy selecting beautiful plants for the growing season.  Check out some of their favorites, below.
A Veggie Garden for Everyone
Three Easy Options to Make it Happen
We design it. You do the rest.
Designing a garden uniquely yours, suited to your tastes, lifestyle and planting conditions is our strong suit, and fun for us! Our garden coaching services are optional, yet always available to you.

We design and build it out for you. You plant, maintain, harvest and enjoy. We can provide optional plants and coaching, as needed.

We do it all. You enjoy the rewards.
Our full-service veggie garden option means we design, build, install, maintain, and harvest the goodies for you, leaving a bounty basket at your doorstep. (Also known as 'The Little Red Hen' option.)

There's almost no excuse to not try something in the realm of edibles in your yard this season! Call 763.475.4960 or write:  info@BloomOnMN.com for more information.
Plants To Get Excited About
Osteospermum '3D Purple'
The gorgeous blooms from this African Daisy stay open all day and night.

Leycesteria 'Jealousy'
This new variety of the Leycesteria formosa provides bright foliage all season and purple fruit in the Fall. The bonus: it attracts pheasants, and is as beautiful in a container as it is in a wetland area.

Gomphrena 'Fireworks'
Not your typical Bachelor's Button, this gomphrena is a must for any cutting garden. It produces more blooms than other gomphrenas, with an intense hot pink flower tipped with bright yellow. Its drought-tolerance and resistance to weather damage make it a perfect choice for flower power.

Geranium 'First Yellow'
The compact habit of this hybridized garden geranium is perfect for water-wise gardens and containers.

Nicotiana 'Baby Bella'
Hummingbirds and songbirds love this Nicotiana. The deep red tubular flowers of the Baby Bella are relatively large for this vigorous, well-branched plant.

Lobularia SilverStream
This vegetative alyssum is perfumed with a sweet honey fragrance, and is packed with blossoms lasting all season.

"Every gardener knows that under the cloak of winter lies a miracle ... a seed waiting to sprout, a bulb opening to the light, a bud straining to unfurl.  And the anticipation nurtures our dream." ~ Barbara Winkler
