Giving Back
Wayzata Adopt-a-Garden Continues to Thrive

The large garden we manage at the corner of Ferndale and Wayzata Blvd. East brings us great delight every year.
Wayzata Adopt-a-Garden
Each season we infuse new edibles into the planting plan. Not only do they co-exist beautifully with the perennials, shrubs and trees we've installed, but they also provide an opportunity for sharing the harvest with the community.

It's been our chance to educate about everything from 'nutrient-dense' foods to proper planting techniques, to the importance of giving back - especially to a community in which we serve.

Stop by and visit the garden sometime!

January, 2012
 Greetings!

Now that winter weather is truly here, we remember the things we appreciate about it. Like better skiing conditions! And the beauty that can be found in ice! Our friend Terry McDaniel, ice luminary photographer extraordinaire, has graciously allowed us to use one of her fabulous images this month from one of her awesome creations.

We've also resumed production of our uniquely wonderful ice luminaries, which make great gifts! Let us know if there is someone in your life in need of a warm glow from a beautiful ice lantern! See more Valentine gift ideas, below.

Our designers are busy creating spring planting plans and preparing detailed plant lists. Spring container proposals are in development, also. Watch for them, along with photo CD's of your landscape in 2011, in the coming weeks! See more about our spring proposals, below.

This is the best time of year to evaluate the structure of your landscape. With the 'bones' exposed, it is easier to identify areas in need of new shrubs and trees. We'd be happy to help you determine what's best for your landscape this year. Call 763.475.4960 to arrange for an appointment.

Plants Heidi Loves for 2012
A Few of Our Favorites for Your Landscape

Vaccinium "Northblue" Blueberry
This compact plant producing large Blueberry Plant
and tasty blueberries is perfectly suited to our climate.
Its glossy dark green leaves turn a deep red color in the fall. Both butterflies and birds are as attracted to it as we are!

Diervilla "Cool Splash" Dwarf Bush Honeysuckle

The first variegated Diervilla features a bright white color, visible in shady gardens. It's easy to grow in most soil types, and produces lovely yellow blossoms in June and July. It's also deer resistant and drought tolerant!
              Diervilla Cools Splash
Physocarpus "Little Devil" Ninebark
We love this compact, easy-to-grow, low-maintenance shrub for its drought-tolerance, deep burgundy color and white-pink blossoms in June. It appreciates full sun, and it attracts butterflies.
               Little Devil Ninebark
Thuja Occidentalis "Congabe" Fire Chief Arborvitae
This soft and lacy dwarf white cedar forms a perfect round ball. Its sage-green foliage with red tips makes a distinctive statement, and it requires little to no pruning.

Spring Plant Proposals
Coming Soon to Your Mailbox
  • Your 2012 Garden Planting Plan and Spring Pansy Pot proposals will be mailed with the photo CD of your 2011 gardens in the coming weeks.Spring_Pansy_Pot
  • We encourage and appreciate your feedback at this stage of the planning process!
  • Please let us know if you desire any changes to the plant choices or proposed installation dates.
  • Planting plan proposals are configured using planting material costs, and do not include design and installation labor or miscellaneous materials.
  • You may receive two proposals if you have both portable containers and in-ground plantings, as each are taxed differently.
  • We have capped our down payment request to 50% of plant materials, in an effort to procure optimal pricing for premium plants.  Your down payment is applied to the installation invoice once the plants have been installed.
Soil Sense: More than Just Dirt
Soil Sustains Life Sustainable Soil Management Pays Off

The importance of quality soil cannot be underestimated. Proper care of our soils ultimately ensures the longevity of all plants and animals.

Soil nutrients, soil structure and soil texture all play a vital role in the health of our landscapes and our planet! Maintaining a healthy balance of nutrients, living organisms and minerals in the soil help to provide stability for plants to thrive.

We are proud of the high priority we place on our soil preparation techniques, and on making the appropriate soil amendments when needed. It's truly one of the best investments to make in a landscape!
Healing with Nature
Healing_With_Nature Feel the Difference with a Deeper Connection to Nature

We bring more focus this year to our ongoing mission to build awareness around the benefits of the 'nature connection' in our everyday lives.

It's no surprise that one of the top global cultural trends this year is to
make an effort to take a break from technology! Even a short pause 'unplugged' helps us maintain mental and emotional health. We know the restorative and healing powers of nature can also help us be more creative, intelligent and frankly, more joyful.

If you'd like to learn more about Heidi's techniques to become more 'nature-smart', or how to promote better health and well-being from principles of nature, contact Heidi directly at 612.366.7766.
Excitement mounts for the season ahead: New plants, new techniques, new staff additions, new relationships to nurture with friends and clients alike! In order to truly succeed with our goals, we need to be certain we're meeting yours. I would love to hear from you! Call 763.475.4960, or write: info@BloomOnMN.com.
