August, 2011

As our lovely summer season starts to wind down, we are busy with our ongoing maintenance activities, including weeding, fertilizing, removing any areas of over-zealous perennials, monitoring moisture conditions and deploying deer control management practices. Beds are being prepared for Fall bulb planting, as well. We especially enjoy this time of year to create colorful bouquets from cut flowers, and hope you have enjoyed the beauty of the bounty from your own back yard.

Our designers are busy creating the Spring flowering bulb plans for Fall planting.  Expect your proposal to arrive shortly. For those of you on our seasonal container planting plan, you should have received your Fall mum pot design proposal via e-mail recently.  Be sure to let us know if you have any questions or revisions to either plan.

We continue to install new garden beds and hardscape areas as well as plant perennials, shrubs and trees through mid-October. It is not too late to get on our project schedule.  Call us at 763.475.4960 to arrange for a site visit or discussion.

Fall is for Planting!

The Best Time of Year for New Plants

Fall is an excellent time for planting for several reasons:
  • Plants establish a strong root system in the warmer soil of Fall.
  • There are fewer insects and weed seeds this time of year.
  • Fall typically produces a dependable rainfall.
This beautiful Pink Annabelle Hydrangea produces blooms Summer through Fall, and is a great example of a colorful addition to your Fall planting plan!

Green Exercise is for Everyone

Move Your Exercise Routine Outdoors!

We may all realize that gardening can strengthen weak muscles and increase joint flexibility ranges. But did you know that nature-based exercise not only builds physical fitness, but also strengthens our senses, our intellectual capacity and our mental health?

Recent studies suggest that outdoor exercise yields greater benefits than indoor exercise, including feeling more restored and less anxious than when performing activities with similar intensity indoors.
