Water Wise Tips

Did You Know...
Conserving water is cool because water is our single most precious natural resource?

Did You Know...
Watering deeply and less often is better for your plant's root systems?  They are 'trained' to reach for the water source, and develop longer roots when watering is less frequent.

Did You Know...
Installing Raingardens and deploying shoreline stabilization techniques can reduce pollutants while providing a beautiful and natural habitat for both flora and fauna?

Did You Know...
Installing a rain barrel  system not only reduces municipal water use and pollution ending up in your watershed, but also provides a chemical-free water source for your plants?

Did You Know...
Stormwater Run-off is the number one problem affecting our water quality?

Did You Know...
Installing low-maintenance native plants in high-maintenance turf areas reduces run-off while providing a natural water filtration system.

June 2011
Greetings!

Happy Summer! It has been so delightful for us to fully engage with your landscapes and bring the color and beauty of the season into your world! We hope you are enjoying your new plantings, and we thank you the opportunity to share the benefits of connecting with nature!

It might be hard to believe we could hit 103 degrees and then plummet into a cooler stretch, but one of our messages of the season remains constant: Keep yourselves, your pets and your plants hydrated properly for optimal health!  See more about our water wise tips, at left.
Maintenance Schedule Begins This Week
Mulching, Fertilizing & Deer Control
At this point in the growing season, we begin our maintenance schedule rotation. The soil conditions are now optimal for mulching, and our fertilizing schedule is adjusted to the growth rate of the plants. In addition, our 'triple threat' of deer control practices begin the next rotation.

We also perform staking now where needed, and once the lilacs and forsythia are ready, we prune accordingly. As always, we assign the maintenance practice most appropriate for your landscape and your budget. Let us know if you need any additional project work while we're on site for maintenance!

Mulching Matters

 Employee of the Month

Meet Jaimeson Pool
We honor Jamie this month as our MVP at HLG!  Now starting his lucky 13th season with us, we are more and more impressed by his triple "P" plays in the areas of Patience, Perseverance and Professionalism! He has become the "Captain of Everything", from leading the crew leaders and crew staff, to managing all vehicles, equipment and tools, to becoming our "Professor of Photography".

Jamie's strengths in leading with a calm demeanor and his authentic passion for client satisfaction are matched by his love of all things botanical. The sum of all these come so naturally, we've convinced they are a part of Jamie's DNA. If only his great-grandfather knew the legacy he inspired in Jamie when he left his detailed plant journals!

Thank you, Jamie, for your excellent commitment to service! We look forward to another 13 years of growth with you!

The Nature Principle
Heidi recently represented the MNLA at a public policy forum held at the MN Landscape Arboretum during the Richard Louv event. Heidi encouraged everyone in the green industry to embrace the "Nature Principle" by creating outcomes of health and healing through nature.

The People/Plant/Prayer Connection

Heidi addressed the "Young in Heart" group at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Her presentation delivered practical tips on how to tap into the restorative powers of nature while building awareness of our spiritual connection. Sensory pots were set at each table and enjoyed by all participants.

Our sincere thanks for your business!  Enjoy your summer!

Sincerely,
