UPDATE FROM NURSE PATTY

Happy Spring Laguna! It's hard to believe that the end of the year is around the corner. It's starting to warm up so remember to protect skin from sunburn and send a water bottle to school every day. I wanted to notify you of several things coming in the next few weeks.

  • 5th grade parents: You will need to update your child's immunization record prior to entering 6th grade; two shots are required for middle school. I will host an immunization clinic here at Laguna if there is enough interest. Scottsdale Healthcare will bring their program to our campus and provide shots free of charge. To be eligible for the clinic you have to be without health insurance or health insurance that does not cover immunizations. I need at least 20 students who qualify to hold the clinic here. Let me know if you are interested as soon as possible.
  • Blood Drive will be on our Campus on Wednesday, May 2nd from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm. You can sign up at www.Bloodhero.com(Sponsor Code: lagunaelem) Save a life...donate blood!
  • There will be a one time puberty education class for all 5th graders during specials time on Thursday, May 10th. The class consists of basic human growth and development, puberty and hygiene. If you would like to view the film the children watch it will be available in the conference room on Tuesday, May 8th at 9am. If you would like your child to opt out of this class, please send in a written request by May 1st.
  • Health office needs: I need girls size 6 shorts for spills and accidents. I am also in need of a new nebulizer for kids with breathing treatments. My current machine is old and very loud. If you have a connection to a medical supply company or own a new machine and would like to donate it, I would love to have it.
  • Remember to pick up all medications and supplies in the health office at the end of the year. Medical equipment, medications, inhalers, etc are not saved from year to year and must be disposed of on the last day of school.

Thank you,

Nurse Patty

FROM THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE

Parents, when your child is absent, please call the Attendance Line (484-2400) to report the absence.  An email or phone call to the teacher is fine, but we also need to know in the office so that we can properly record attendance.  Also, please note that the gates are locked at 8:45 a.m.  If your child is not in class by then they will be sent to the office for a Tardy Pass.  Thank you all for your cooperation!

TECHNOLOGY PARENT TRAINING

The plan to transition from School Fusion to MySUSD has been postponed for one year. The District, departments, schools and teachers will continue to use School Fusion web pages for the 2012-13 school yearSimply said, because of the many technology projects being implemented, the technology department believes it is in everyone's best interest to delay this project. By postponing the rollout of this very large and complex implementation, teachers, staff and parents will be able to better focus on the use of a new online Gradebook, Edmodo, Parent Vue, BYOT and other technology initiatives. To learn more about these initiatives please attend a parent training at Laguna on Thursday, May 3rd at 9:00 a.m. Mr. Tom Clark, Director of Technology for SUSD will be presenting these programs to you and answering questions.

HEALTHY PACKS FOOD PROGRAM

The Scottsdale Unified School District, Scottsdale Leadership and the Vista Del Camino Food Bank have thrown their collective weight behind an effort to feed the most needy children in the District. Food donation boxes in support of the program will be placed in the office/lobby of all 16 SUSD elementary schools, the three middle schools that have elementary grade levels, and two high schools (Chaparral and Desert Mountain), for a total of 21 donation boxes Districtwide.

The Healthy Packs weekend food program is currently being implemented at ANLC and Tonalea Elementary School. The food collected in these boxes will be used to both partially support the Healthy Packs Program as it expands into other SUSD schools, and provide additional support to our local Vista Del Camino Food Bank, which offers daily relief to our less fortunate residents. The donation boxes will be emptied twice monthly by volunteers from the Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club, who have also generously signed on to support the Healthy Packs Program.
