Laguna Collects Cash from Fry's Cool Ca$h Program!
Thank you to the 38 families that linked their Fry's VIP cards with Laguna's Cool Ca$h program bar code. Your collective effort earned $500 cash for Laguna PTO!

If we all link our cards next year, we could earn up to $2,000 for Laguna! It is worth taking the extra minute to link your card at check-out! Look for the bar code again next August.  It will be announced in the PTO newsletter and available on our website.

Principal's Letter

Dear Parents,

It was another great year at Laguna! The children and staff are ready for a well-deserved break from the routines of the school year. This doesn't mean to put reading, math and writing on the back burner however, so please continue to engage in all three activities through the summer months. AR books are available at your local library; your child should be reading 30 minutes every day, SuccessMaker is available for all students through the month of June. Please have your child get on at least three times a week for reading and math. Discovery Ed is also available for students all summer long. Have your child write to-do lists, letters to family members, or postcards while on vacation. In other words, have a wonderful, relaxing summer but keep in mind learning is a life-long, everyday event!

See you in August,

Dr. Root

Important information about how you'll receive communications from Laguna and SUSD beginning in 2011/2012 - PLEASE READ!

Next year ALL communication will be going through the school website and SchoolFusion. It is critical you sign up for the District parent communication tool, called SchoolFusion. You will be notified immediately when new information is placed on the webpage, you will have access to each of your child's classroom webpages, and you will be notified of emergencies as they are unfolding with the most up-to-date reports from the District and the school. Please log on to the District webpage at www.susd.org and forward to the parent page for full directions on how to enroll in SchoolFusion. You only have to do this once and it will automatically roll you over each year as your children progress through the K-12 system. Don't wait until fall - please do this now!

Vice Principal's Letter

Dear Laguna Community,

Over the past five years it has been my privilege to serve as your Assistant Principal.  My husband and I will be moving this summer to be closer to our family in Tennessee.

It has been rewarding to be a part of the Laguna community!  The national recognition that Laguna has received for Character Education, Technology, and Science Instruction as well as being named an A++ school have been so exciting.

Working with your children, the wonderful Laguna faculty and staff, and Dr. Root have been highlights for me.   I'll miss you and wish you all the best!

Sincerely,

Anne Riley

A Message from your PTO President and Board

Hello Laguna Families!  What a great year Laguna has had.  The children are so eager to learn, happy with their friends and have such a great sense of comfort and safety within our walls.  What a terrific gift each of those is to our 700+ students!

The PTO had a fantastic year.  We were honored to gift 8 instructional aides/assistants to our school and boy did they assist!  Thanks to your donations we were able to fund an aide for each grade level (a first for Laguna) along with 100% staffing for the Computer and Science Labs as well as the Library.  From Spirit Night to Subway to the New and Used Book Fairs, each dollar you donated IMMEDIATELY affected your kiddos!

For the upcoming 2011/2012 school year your Laguna PTO will fund 7 Instructional Aides/Assistants-with a slightly different set up.  Instead of separate grade-level aides, 4 instructional aides will float between age groups depending upon specific needs throughout the school year.  At the beginning of the academic year aides will assist the younger ages with placement and reading groups, before AIMS testing they will move to the upper grades for proper pull-out of small groups, etc.  And, as mentioned above, all 3 Instructional Assistants in the Computer Lab, Science Lab and Library will be back-what a fantastic gift to our staff and our students!

Remember, Friday August 5th is Tour Day!  Come see your new classroom, drop off supplies and be sure your lunch account is ready to go!  The PTO will be selling Laguna Spirit t-shirts, soliciting Family Donations, assisting with bus route navigation, SchoolFusion and PTO Newsletter registration, and, of course, be ready to sign you up for our many volunteer opportunities!

Thanks for a great year.  I'm looking forward to returning as your PTO President.  Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns you may have.  Have a great summer and we'll see you August 5th at 2 p.m!

Adopt-A-Book Program

Congratulations to all of our "Parents" who adopted a book this school year for our library!  A total of 49 books were "adopted"!  Students who "adopted" a book were treated to a root beer float party with Cat in the Hat, showed off their books, and had their names included on a special nameplate in each book they "adopted".  This new program was a huge success and some wonderful books were added to our collection.

Click here to visit Mrs. Geha's  web page and view all of the new books and their "adoptive" parents!
