Summer Fun Drive for Laguna's Sister School,
Tonalea Elementary

May 9th - May 18th

Our final PTO Community Outreach drive of the school year will take place May 9th thru May 18th, 2011.  Tonalea is asking for gifts for 6th grade students to give as prizes for an academic competition they are having on May 23rd.  (Ideas for these prizes include footballs, basketballs, other sports equiptment, costume jewelery, fun books, notebooks, games, gift cards to Target, Walmart or anything else a 6th grader would like).  We would also like to collect items for Tonalea students in anticipation of free passes to the community pool as in past years.  Those items include new bathing suits, towels, sun screen, hats, sun glasses, flip flops, pool toys, etc. Anything you can contribute would be much appreciated!  A collection box will be located outside of Laguna's main office and a collection jar inside for gift cards. Thanks again for all of your support this year.  Please direct questions to Christy Johnson (brixjohnson@hotmail.com) or Leslee Kelly (lkmomdoc@gmail.com).

Notes from the Health Office

Human Growth and Development (puberty and hygiene only) class is scheduled for all 5th graders during their "Specials" time on Tuesday, May 10th. If you would like to preview the film the kids are shown, or if you would like your child to opt-out of the class, please notify me at patty.smith@susd.org.

Immunization records are a requirement for school attendance. New records are needed for entry into kindergarten and 6th grade. Current pre-K and 5th grade students will need updated paperwork next school year. Please bring in all new/updated immunization records after you make those well visits. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about requirements. Keep in mind immunization recommendations and requirements change frequently.

The May immunization clinic has been cancelled at Laguna due to lack of interest. If you would like additional information on immunization clinics in the area please contact me. Scottsdale Healthcare offers FREE monthly clinics at their Osborn campus. View this link for additional information: SHC FREE Imunization Clinics 2011.

Please remember to pick up all medications and medical supplies brought to the health office this school year on the last day of school, May 24th. All items left after that day will be disposed of.

Thank you so much to all who donated blood at Laguna's Blood Drive last month. Our goal was achieved and Laguna received a Barnes & Noble gift certificate. Mrs. Geha was able to purchase two beautiful new books--one on volcanoes and another on US Presidents!

Thank you,

Patty Smith RN, BSN

Library Reminders

All library books are due back to Laguna's library by Friday, May 6th and the library will not be circulating books after that date.  Students are responsible for any missing or lost books and are required to pay for them or replace them with a new copy of the same title and binding. Payment can be made via cash or a check made out to Laguna Elementary School.  The library will be open before school to settle accounts and for AR testing until the last day of school.  It will be closed during the school day beginning the week of May 9th in order to complete our library inventory.

Summer Reading Lists for students and adults are announced on the Laguna Library page under Announcements and Information. Checkout the list for some amazing summer reads.
