Solarize Contractors Chosen & Sign Ups Begin

Solar panels

A group of committed readers on our RFP committee read through eleven proposals and interviewed five contractors, selecting the final contractor for each project. Congratulations to Mr. Sun Solar for winning the contract with Solarize Northwest.  Thanks to our volunteers for working tirelessly to make the selections.

The first Solarize Northwest workshop has been held, with attendees learning projected pricing details, meeting contractors and talking about financing and technology of solar. Now we need you!  If you have thought about solar at all in the last year, start talking about it with your friends, let them know that workshops are being held throughout the community, and stir up excitement equal to ours! More Solarize Basics and technical workshops are coming up - check our website for the schedule.

With the contractor selected and workshops started, online registration is up. If you know that you are ready to go forward, you can register online at the Solar Oregon website.

The meeting will highlight a newly released mapping analysis of the SW Hills. Experts will address assessing risk, preventive measures for property owners,  as well information about insuring property against landslides and other natural hazards.

For more information, contact Christine Miles, Portland Office of Emergency Management, 503 793-1650.

NINA Explores Eco-Industrial Development

NINA logoAt the January 11 meeting of Northwest Industrial Neighborhood Association, Arnold Cogan, Principal in the consulting firm of Cogan Owens Cogan, LLC,  (COC) spoke about Eco-Industrial Development (EID).  This was a preview of a more detailed presentation to be made to NINA members in February or March by Andreas Koenig, an international expert in EID practices and a Senior Advisor for Sustainable Management to the Re-Tem Corporation of Japan.  Re-Tem and COC are collaborating in the Pacific Northwest to identify opportunities where EID techniques can be applied.

This approach to sharing information, knowledge, and technology may not only be beneficial to the individual and collective interests of members, but NINA also hopes it could be a catalyst to fostering a new, productive approach with neighbors.

Further information and details on EID Workshop in February or March, watch the NINA and NWNW websites.  All neighborhood associations are welcomed to attend.

NW Farmer's Market Seeks New Location

Portland Farmers MarketIf you shopped at the NW 23rd Farmers Market last year, you know that they had a successful first season and were enthusiastically welcomed by many in the neighborhood. This year, the Con-way lot at NW 23rd & Savier will no longer be available, and they are seeking a new location.

They need a spot in the NW area that meets these criteria: 50'x100' lot available from noon until 8:30 p.m., Thursdays, June through September; access to potable water; location for season-long placement of ADA Porta-Potty (locked outside operating hours) at PFM's expense, or access to a public restroom; access to electrical outlet (optional but preferred) for market music; use of nearby lot for vendor/customer parking during market hours; access to 6x6 storage for market canopies/signage/gear (optional).

If you have any leads on a possible new home for the Farmers Market, contact senior market manager Jaret Foster by email or at 503 241-0032 or 503 757-6994 (cell).
