PDC Wants Your Input on Urban Renewal Areas
You may have recently received a postcard informing you that you live in or near an area that will be affected by the proposed Central City Urban Renewal Plan. The new proposed URA boundary includes parts of Portland Downtown, Goose Hollow, and the Northwest District. Have concerns, or wonder how this will affect your neighborhood? The Urban Renewal Area Evaluation Committee is holding a series of
public outreach meetings so you can learn more about the proposals, ask questions, and give your input. Meetings will be held September 20 and 22, and October 1. Visit the PDC website for times and locations, and to find out more about the plan and its history. Don't miss this opportunity to participate in the process. |
NW Germantown Road Gets Speed Bumps
By Brian Hoop - After a nearly nine-year campaign by residents and the Linnton Neighborhood Association to slow traffic on NW Germantown Road, crews finally installed five speed bumps between NW Bridge Avenue and Lilac Avenue this past July. Three additional bumps were installed on NW Harbor Boulevard. The project was paid for with more than $16,000 raised by nearby residents and from a Metro grant. Congratulations to Darise Weller, a NW Germantown Road resident and LNA board member, who spearheaded the project over the long haul. "This speed bump project is the longest of any speed bump project in Portland," reported Weller at a recent neighborhood meeting. "I think the second longest was two years." This residential stretch of Germantown has a 25 mile per hour posted speed limit, but data shows that 85 percent of vehicles are traveling between 34 to 37 mph. Within a few days of the speed bumps going in, Weller could see a difference. "I'm already noticing that people are driving slower," she was quoted saying in the Oregonian. |
