Greetings from Neighbors West-Northwest! The rain is back, but don't dispair! NWDA Walk Safe Umbrellas are available in our office at 2257 NW Raleigh. These umbrellas will protect you from the rain and promote pedestrian safety: $20 for the adult size; $8, child sized. Grant Deadlines Fast Approaching!
The Northwest Neighborhoods Parks and Recreation Fund
awards grants for the capital development and renovation of parks and
recreation facilities in Northwest Portland. Applications are due
by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009 in the Neighbors
West-Northwest office, 2257 NW Raleigh. Contact Mark Sieber, 503.823.4212, for more information. The Neighborhood Small Grant Program provides neighborhoods and community organizations an opportunity to expand their community-building
capacity, attract new and diverse members and sustain those already
involved. Projects must benefit the community within the NWNW boundaries. Applications are due by 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009 in the Neighbors West-Northwest office, 2257 NW Raleigh Street. Find the application online or contact Angela Southwick, 503.823.4211, for additional information.
The Metro Central Enhancement Grant helps make communities greener, cleaner, healthier and safer. Applications are due Monday November 9, 2009 by 5:00 p.m. at Metro, 600 NE Grand Ave. Contact Karen Blauer, 503.797.1506, for more information. |

Portland Watershed Plan: Community Meeting
This month's Portland Downtown Neighborhood Meeting should
be of interest to neighbors within and out of the neighborhood. Mike Rosen, Watershed Division Manager and
Ivy Dunlop, Sustainable Stormwater Program Manager will focus on the Portland
Watershed Plan with specifics on how it affects downtown. The Portland Watershed Plan is a

Hollow Foothills League scheduled a Special Board Meeting to appoint a nominating committee. This nominating committee will present a slate of candidates for the 2009 board elections.

Polish the Pearl with Your Neighbors
Join your neighbors at the biannual Polish the Pearl. After a safety meeting at Urban Grind, volunteers divide into teams to rid the Pearl of debris. Pre-registeration required for this family friendly event where neighbors and parents help teach local children about community pride and responsibility.

Donate to the PHLUSH Travel Fund 
Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human (PHLUSH), a project of Old
Town Chinatown Neighborhood Association, received an invitation to share Portland's
experience in increasing the availability of public restrooms from the World
Toilet Organization. PHLUSH requests your support to send two speakers to the World Toilet Summit and Expo in Singapore this December.
This is a unique opportunity to advocate for public toilets, publicize Portland's
experiences and learn from experts.

Goose Hollow First Sunday Clean-ups
Join Lincoln High School students and Goose Hollow neighbors for First Sunday Neighborhood Clean-ups. Led by a Lincoln High School student, this group is starting out with litter pick up, but has many ideas on how to beautify the neighborhood -- with enough community support. Sign up today!
