Cambodian American Sharing & Healing Forum
You've probably heard of the Khmer Rouge. This is your
opportunity to hear of its affect on the Cambodian American Community of Oregon
(CACO). Did you know that there are
approximately 10,000 Cambodians living in Oregon and Southwest Washington, many
of these individuals arrived as refugees of genocide. Learn more by attending the CACO Collective
Sharing and Healing Forum which includes the premier of an oral history documentary. Read more about the event.

Goose Hollow Party at PGE Park: Time Change
Goose Hollow Foothills League will be holding its annual picnic at PGE Park Park on August 19 to see the Portland Beavers take on the Iowa Cubs. This event is free to Goose Hollow residents and members, so come meet your neighbors for a hosted event in the Beer Garden at the field level -- food and drinks will be provided.
Neighborhood board members will be manning a table just outside PGE park in the NW corner to provide tickets. Please bring your proof of residency (e.g. driver's license, utility bill). Oregon Nikkei Street Fair in Old Town
Come out to Old Town for a Street Party celebrating Japanese
History. The event features a swing dance competition,

Crime Prevention Corner
Gunfire Shakes up Northwest District and Neighbors by Frank Silva, ONI Crime Prevention Coordinator
As many of you might know, a shooting took place on August 3rd,
at the 1600 block of West Burnside Avenue. The incident happened at
approximately 1:30 a.m. The suspect was seen shooting at two other people.
Nobody was injured and damage was limited to parked cars and windows.
Detectives and the Neighborhood Response Team of the Portland Police Bureau are
vigorously working with property and business owners to identify the shooter.

Linnton Stewardship Day
Join your neighbors pulling ivy, restoring habitat

The Northwest Industrial Neighborhood Association invites you to attend this free event to learn more about effective emergency preparedness from industry experts.With the current economic downturn this fair is the perfect way to quickly and inexpensively organize and prepare your company for a catastrophe that could be the last straw to your business survival. NWNW Neighborhood Small Grant Workshop
Put on your thinking caps! Start thinking of creative grant projects for the 4th season of the Neighborhood Small Grants program. Our goal is to provide neighborhood and community organizations an opportunity to build community, attract new and diverse members and sustain those already involved. The grant emphasizes partnerships and reaching out to underrepresented groups. Projects must benefit the community within the NWNW boundaries. The 2009-10 Grant Applications will be available in September. Applications will be due November 2, 2009. Attending the grant workshop is highly recommended.
