Dear Neighbor,

Greetings from Neighbors West-Northwest!  With summer right around the corner, there's no better time to get outside and take part in some neighborhood activities.  Scroll down to read more about our current news and events.
Thank You for Your Support

Thank you all for your support at the recent Neighbors West-Northwest fundraiser. Nearly fifty people attended The Uneasy Chair at CoHo Theater, caught up with their neighbors, and enjoyed the raffle's suspense. We would also like to thank the people and organizations that contributed to the event by donating food, drink, raffle pFundraiserrizes, and photo contest support.

This year, the theater ticket prices were lowered so more people could attend the event. It was great to have so many of our friends and neighbors there, but lowering the ticket prices resulted in less revenue from the event, so we are still working to meet our fundraising goals. If you were unable to attend this event, please consider donating online or mailing a check to Neighbors West-Northwest, 2257 NW Raleigh Street, Portland, OR 97210.
City Budget Update

Thanks to all who contacted our Mayor and Commissioners recently in support of "The right budget for ONI".  The Mayor heard you, and is supporting our "right budget" in his recently released proposed city budget.  This is great news, for though it means a 10% overall budget cut to ONI and the ONI partners (including the Neighborhood Associations and Coalitions), it protects us from cuts of up to 20% that would otherwise have been required.

Please take a few moments to send the Mayor and all our City Commissioners a big thank-you for their support of our work and programs.  Please thank Commissioner Fritz -- she stewarded ONI and our  programs through the budget wringer with skill, persistence and success.

Mayor Sam Adams, (503) 823-4120
Commissioner Nick Fish, (503) 823-3589
Commissioner Amanda Fritz, (503) 823-3008
Commissioner Randy Leonard, (503) 823-4682
Commissioner Dan Saltzman, (503) 823-4151
Success at NWDA Graffiti Cleanup

Volunteers from the Northwest District Association (NWDA) and crews from Goodbye Graffiti and the Youth Employment Institute participated in a graffiti remGraffitioval project on May 9th.  Marcia Dennis, Graffiti Prevention Coordinator for the City of Portland organized the event.  Over 200 cases of graffiti were documented.  Workers targeted graffiti in areas between NW 19th and NW 23rd, from Burnside to Lovejoy.  Graffiti was found on buildings, fences, light poles, signs, newspaper boxes, and even on a tree stump.   Overall, the event was a big success.  The City's Graffiti Abatement program is scheduled to receive a 50% budget cut starting this July - contact Marcia (mdennis@ci.portland.or.us) to learn more or to find out how to help.
