Tri-Met Proposes Service Change
Tri-Met has proposed several changes that impact bus
service in the Neighbors West-Northwest coalition area. This includes eliminating lines
18 and 63, reducing service to other lines and the MAX, and changes to
Fareless Square. To find out how these proposed
changes may impact your service area, visit the Tri-Met website.

From now until April 10, Tri-Met will be accepting public comments via email, phone (503-962-5806), or snail mail (TriMet Officials, TriMet-MK2, 4012 SE
17th Avenue, Portland, OR 97202).
Tri-Met will also hold a public hearing on Tuesday, April 7,
2009, from 4 - 7 pm at the Portland Building, 1120 SW 5th Avenue. |
Support Neighborhood Funding
Now is the time to write to City Council to express your support for funding for neighborhoods and coalition office services! The budget for the Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI), which provides funding for Coalition Offices and Neighborhood Associations, is currently under review. Commissioner Amanda Fritz is recommending the 'Right
Budget,' which - while taking some reductions - protects core services
and direct support to neighborhoods.
We encourage you to send a personal email to support
neighborhood funding, using the following subject line "[insert your name or
organization] supports the Right Budget for ONI." Please share your own personal stories
about how your neighborhood has used new funds - communication funds, grant
money, staff support for your website, cleanups, etc - and what you were able to do with those funds. In closing, feel free to use talking points available
online here.
Remember to include your name and address. City Councilor email addresses are listed below:

Invasive Plant Removal Efforts focus on Garlic Mustard
This
spring, the City of Portland will work with
several partners to stamp out garlic mustard along roads and streams and in
n atural areas around northwest Portland. During April and May the
city will hire licensed contractors to spot-spray garlic mustard along roadways
in Northwest Portland and along trails in Forest Park. The Garlic Mustard Monster Mash
will be held on May 16, 2009 (Portland Parks and Recreation is still determining the time
and location). For more information, contact Rachel Felice, 503-823-9423.

Neighborhood Diaries Public Art Project
Local artist Abe Ingle is recording neighborhood memories
over the next several months as part of a public art project supported in part by the Regional Arts and Cultural Council. The recorded memories will be incorporated into free
"walking-tour" podcasts that guide listeners through neighborhoods' seemingly
mundane street corners to communicate the rich history of our local surroundings. Abe is currently looking for
people to volunteer their memories - if you would like to volunteer or are interested in learning more, check out www.hoodturkey.com or email Abe.
