Third Thursdays Return to Mill 

 

Third Thursday!Third Thursday is back with a variety of entertainment and activities for Mill Avenue District visitors. The first Third Thursday of the season will kickoff October 18th at the Devils on Mill tailgate event. Find us at 6th Street Park for a night of music, games, and fun before the football game. You can win loads of prizes at our contest booth and then dance the night away to the sounds of DJ Devil. So, bring your maroon and gold spirit and some friends to Devils on Mill this Third Thursday.

Devil's on Mill at 6th Street Park: Show your Sun Devil spirit at ASU's official pre-game tailgate party including live music, games, food, fun and more.

 

November 15, 2012 -

Pre-Pilgrim's Day Pooch Party at Hayden Station Amphitheater: Featuring the return of the popular pop-up pooch park, dog costume contests, pet rescues, and musical performances by Ladylike and What Laura Says. Rescues include Lost Our Home, Lost Paws, Mayday Pitbull Rescue, AZ Great Pyrs, and the English Springer Spaniel Rescue.

 

January 17, 2013 -

Bike Night: TBAG and CycleLights will join us for an epic night of bikes, lights, and music! An assortment of bicycles will parade through Downtown Tempe followed by a free concert at Hayden Station Amphitheater.

 

February 21, 2013 -

Geeks' Night Out: Release your inner geek as we show off our nerdy side with this night of high tech gadgets, video games, robots, and more.

 

March 21, 2013 -

Opening Act Contest & Concert: The winner of the Opening Act Video Challenge will open for one of Arizona's hottest acts.

 

April 18, 2013 -

MAD Couture Challenge: Mill Avenue becomes the runway for some of the Valley's top designers and models, displaying unique Downtown Tempe outfits and accessories. After the show, dance your designer shoes off to the sounds of Champagne Tap.

 

May 16, 2013 -

Collector Car Night: Classic and exotic car owners are invited to show off their rides along Mill Avenue, where car lovers of all kinds can come enjoy the sights.

 

On top of all this, every Third Thursday will feature a Night Ride with CycleLights, and MAD Bag giveaways!

A Historic Night at Hayden Flour Mill

October 5, 5pm to 10pm

 

Don't miss the grand opening of the green at the historic Hayden Flour Mill. Join the City of Tempe for the dedication and grand opening of the mill on Friday October 5th from 5pm to 10pm. Prior to the dedication, the City of Tempe has invited anyone who worked at the Mill to pose for a group photo to dedicate the mill. The dedication will begin at 6pm with a guest speaker and live music to follow. Live music includes the band Jared and Mill, named after the flour mill itself, followed Mariachi band Los Rebeldes. Also in attendance will be fifty retail, food, service, and non-profit businesses hosting booths throughout the event. The event is free to the public. Hayden Flour Mill is located at 119 S. Mill Avenue.

The Bikes are Back for Tour de Fat

October 6, 10am to 4pm  

   

Hold on to your handlebars because Tour de Fat is cycling its way to  Downtown Tempe again on October 6th. Join in on the bike parade, enjoy a beer, and listen to the sounds of Devotchka, Yo-Yo People, He's My Brother She's My Sister, and Sssnakenstein at this funky spoke-filled event. This unique bike & beer fest will be located at Tempe Beach Park and admission is free.

 

Participants are encouraged to wear outrageous costumes, decorate their bicycles and have as much fun as possible - all while benefiting the Mountain Bike Association and the Tempe Bicycle Action Group. So, ditch the steering wheel and pedal down to Tempe Town Lake because you don't know what excitement you may find at Tour de Fat!

Live music, German beer and brats at Oktoberfest 

October 12-14

 

It's that time again! This free admission event is making its way to Tempe  Beach Park this October 12-14.   Where polka and German beer meets wiener dog races and a carnival, Oktoberfest is the place to be for the whole family. The three day event is jam-packed with musical entertainment ranging from The Lil' Debbie Band to The Dry River Yacht Club and of course, Polka music!

 

Bring the family to Kinderfest, the kid's fest within the fest, where you can enjoy the Giant Carnival, Craft Zone, and tons of games. Or, do the adult thing and relish the tastes of authentic German beer and brats - there's something for everyone. All this fun is for a good cause as well, benefiting the Tempe Sister City program.

Celebrate Oktoberfest at Handlebar & Grill

October 1st-14th, all day

 

Join the Oktoberfest celebrations at Handlebar & Grill for their two week  long Oktoberfest, with daily parties and themes. The Carey Foundation comes to Montage
The Tutu Project Window Exhibit    

 

Walk by Montage Art Studio and Gallery this month to see the inspirational  works of Bob Carey in "The Tutu Project." The exhibit will be on display in the southern window of the Gallery October 1 through December 2nd, 2012. Carey has traveled the world taking unique self portraits in a pink tutu for the last nine years to support his wife who suffers from breast cancer. The project quickly turned into a nationally recognized phenomenon that is continuously gaining press and helping to raise awareness for breast cancer around the globe. All proceeds for pictures or Carey's book 'Ballerina' purchased support families who are affected by breast cancer. Montage Art Studio and Gallery is located at 740 S. Mill Avenue.

Railroad Revival Tour Stops in Downtown Tempe 

October 26 

 

Willie Nelson hits the road again, the railroad that is, for the second  installment of the Railroad Revival Tour. Joining the country legend are critically acclaimed folk rockers Band of Horses, Grammy nominated country musician Jamey Johnson and John Reilly & Friends, featuring actor/musician John C. Reilly. The 16 vintage 1940's railcars will make their stop in the Mill Avenue District October 26th and unload its talent right off the railroad.

 

More than just your average concert, the Railroad Revival Tour allows you to experience the historical significance between railway and good ol' Americana rock. Last year's tour brought a sold out show to the Mill Avenue District and this year may be very well be the same, so, grab your boots and get your tickets before they are gone!
