Tempe 4th of the July Celebration

Gates Open at 4:00pm 

   

fourth of july fireworks Bring your friends and family to Tempe Town Lake for the most exciting July 4th event in the valley.  The Kiwanis Club of Tempe brings their family friendly Tempe 4th celebration back to the Mill Avenue District for a night of music, fun, and fireworks.

 

Main Stage  

5:00pm-11:00pm   

The Main Stage during the event will feature live local entertainment featuring pop rock to reggae to folk music.  Artists performing include bands Poppy & the Usual Suspects, Lil' Debbie Band, Grand Theft Audio, J.J. Linford, and Something Like Seduction.

 

Fireworks
9:20pm-9:55pm 
 

The Fireworks show will take place over Tempe Town Lake, and can be seen from both banks and the outlying areas.  Rio Salado Parkway will be closed from Mill Avenue to Ash Avenue leaving room for patrons to watch the show unobstructed.  Attendees are welcome to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to view the show.

 

Splash Playground   

The Tempe Splash Pad will be open during the event to those who would like to keep cool and run through the acre of spray guns, misters, waterfalls, and water pads.  Keep the kids cool and happy while you enjoy the beautiful day.

 

Family Fun Fest   

The Family Fun Fest provides kids of all ages with entertainment for the duration of the celebration.  From rock climbing walls to inflatables, face painting to relay races- all young adventurers will have something fun to do.  Family Fun Fest provides an inflatable village for exploring, as well as a variety of rides, and more.

 

Tickets
Advance tickets for the Tempe 4th are available at all Fry's food stores until the day of the festival at noon.  Advance tickets are $6.00, children under 12 get in for free.  At the gate, tickets wi
ll be $8.00 for one ticket or $15.00 for two, free admission for children will be honored all night. Gate ticket sales will cease when the park reaches capacity.  Entry is free for anyone with a military ID.    

 

VIP Garden Tickets
Tickets are also available for the Sally's BBQ VIP Garden for $60 each, children ages 5-12, $30 each, plus service charge.  Children younger than 5 years old are FREE, but do not receive a meal.   Ticket price includes a seat in a misted area with a great view of the fireworks show, dinner and 2 drink tickets for beer, soda or water.   Limited tickets available online.

Summer Art Classes Continue at Montage
Ongoing Classes through September  
 

 

The Montage summer art classes continue this month with Art Matters: Learning to Talk about Art and the weekly Painting Fearlessly with Watercolors. For Art Matters, attendees are invited at no cost, to look at art in new perspectives taught by the Montage Member Artists.  While in Painting Fearlessly, artist Kathryn Tartaglia teaches the basics of using watercolors.  As an added bonus, each participant in Painting Fearlessly will receive a $5 gift card to La Bocca Urban Pizzeria and Wine Bar with registration sign up.  Also, mark your August calendar as artist Matt Sterbenz will share his skills with oil paints in Oil Slick.  Come prepared to learn and have some fun.

This class will be centered on the pieces featured in the Montage Gallery, and hosted by the member artists from Montage Studio.  This class will teach viewers to understand and interpret art in new ways.

Oil Slick with Matt Sterbenz
Montage artist Matt will demonstrate the art of oil slicking and talk about their work on display in the gallery.
Time 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Ken Howell, Tempe business owner and winner of Paint Out Tempe,will have his work on display in the Montage Gallery starting this month. His pieces will be shown with selected artist's work from our next Gallery Show "Straight from My Studio." The pieces will be on display for viewers and to purchase July 7 through August 4, 2012. An artist reception will be held on July 19, to celebrate these artists.

Get ready, the ASU Gammage 2012-2013 Season starts this September and they've got some special performances lined up.  This season includes everything from the 1940's tap musical Anything Goes to the Tony Award-winning tale Memphis, with special engagement shows Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, and Donny and Marie- Christmas in Arizona. Season tickets are currently on sale.  As a season ticket holder, you will have access to purchasing tickets to special engagement shows before they go on sale to the public.  This season is looking to have some sell-outs, so purchase your tickets before they are gone.


ANYTHING GOES
November 13-18, 2012

Follow the crazy antics aboard the S.S. American as the eclectic group of characters interact throughout their voyage from New York to London.  The 1940 classic with original music and lyrics by Cole Porter is sure to have your toe tapping with numbers like "You're the Top," "Anything Goes" and "It's De-Lovely."


THE ADDAMS FAMILY 
December 11-16, 2012

The Addams Family, a musical comedy created by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brichman & Rick Elice, will have you falling out of your seat with laughter.  The show follows Wednesday Addams, grown up and having fallen in love with a perfectly normal man, an obvious shock to her family.  Watch the hilarity unfold as Wednesday not only has to introduce the two families but also somehow bring
                         them together civilly for a family dinner in the Addams
                         household.


CATHY RIGBY IS PETER PAN
January 8-13, 2013

This Emmy Award-winning production is sure to keep you mesmerized with Tony Award-nominee Cathy Rigby as Peter Pan.  Last revived in 2005, the show is back and better than ever with an amazing cast and memorable musical numbers.  Entice your imagination and take off to Neverland with sword fights, acrobatics, and the ever-looming Captain Hook.


WAR HORSE
February 5-10, 2013

War Horse has been credited as "a remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship."  Watch as this touching tale follows Albert and his beloved horse Joey, pulled apart by circumstance, and their unimaginable struggles to reunite during World War I.  The production is aided by brilliant life-sized puppets from South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company.


MEMPHIS
March 5-10, 2013

Four time Tony Award-winning musical Memphis is jam packed with musical numbers, dancing, and laughs sure to keep you entertained all night.  Inspired by actual events, the show follows a club singer and a DJ from opposite sides of the track with the same dream- to bring the underground music scene of the 1950's to light.  The show's original score is written by David Bryan, a founding member of Bon Jovi,
                         and is praised as "the very essence of what a Broadway
                         musical should be."


FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL

With a Grammy Award-winning soundtrack including Top-Ten hits such as "I Love Rock n Roll" and "What a Feeling,"Flashdance- The Musical brings energy to the stage you can feel from your seats.  The show features the story of a young Pittsburgh girl as she works her way through two jobs, including dancing at night to hone her talents in hopes of gaining acceptance to a prestigious ballet academy.  The show captures romance, music, and unstoppable energy with a great cast and score.

 


SISTER ACT
June 25-30, 2013 

Prepare to kick up your heels and laugh all night as Sister Act comes to Gammage.  This "ridiculously fun" show follows the story of a would-be diva Deloris Van Cartier who is put into witness protection after she is witness to a murder.  Deloris' protection location- A convent.  The hilarity is off the charts as Deloris and the sisters try to teach each other to loosen up, straighten up, and to have
                         some fun.

LES MISERABLES
September 11-16, 2012   
Les Miserables returns for a one-week showing at ASU Gammage presented by Cameron Mackintosh.  Set in the early 1800's, the story follows the intricate relationships of a few families in France, and the secrets, conflicts, and the love that interweaves them.  Breaking box office records wherever it goes, the show is sure to leave you amazed.


Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
April 9-14, 2013

Winning the hearts of over 35 million people worldwide, this Broadway musical will melt your heart.  Based off of the Academy Award-winning animated film, the story follows Belle on a road to discovery about herself, her family, and just what love can encompass- no matter how beastly.


DONNY AND MARIE - CHRISTMAS IN ARIZONA
