Tour Mill Avenue's Public Art
April 14, 2012

This is your invitation to celebrate a series of new art projects that have helped enliven the Mill Avenue District.  Join us on Saturday, April 14th at 10:00am as we recognize the achievements of the artists of IN FLUX Tempe, the Utility Box Art and Library Card Design Project, and Montage Art Studio and Gallery.  This is your chance to see the new works, meet the artists, and enjoy a nice spring morning stroll along Mill Avenue.

As for the projects, IN FLUX will see four artists convert three sections of a large retail space at the Brickyard on Mill into vibrant art installations.  The art will be visible from outside the space and can be viewed at all hours.  Onlookers are encouraged to watch the artists working.  The Mill Avenue Utility Boxes and Tempe Library Cards Public Art Project has transformed unremarkable traffic control boxes from dust covered cabinets to 5-sided canvases depicting the uniqueness of Arizona and Downtown Tempe.  Individual themes represented include a visual history of the Rio Salado and Hohokam culture, a landscape view of the Superstition Mountains, and the free-spirited vibes long associated with Mill Avenue.  The six works depicted on each box will also be featured on Tempe's new library cards.  Montage has transformed a vacant retail location into a working artists' studio and gallery shared by a variety of painters, sculptures, glass workers, and more.

Introductions of the artists will begin at 10:15am and you will be given a map showing where the public art in Downtown Tempe is located.

You can then head out on your own to see the works of art.

House of Tricks Celebrates 25th Birthday

It's hard to believe that it's already been a quarter of a century since House of Tricks first opened its doors in 1987.  The quaint fine dining restaurant came to life when husband-and-wife owners, Bob and Robin Trick, decided to buy and renovate two 1920's bungalows in the heart of the Mill Avenue District.  Since then, House of Tricks has flourished into one of the most renowned restaurants in Downtown Tempe.  With accolades and awards such as, "Best Patio Dining Al Fresco", "Best Romantic Dinner", "Top 5 Wine Bars in the Valley" and Wine Spectator's "Award of Excellence," it's easy to see why Tricks is still standing strong after all these years.

House of Tricks plans on celebrating their 25th anniversary throughout the year and they want you to join.  You can participate by submitting your favorite House of Tricks moment to their Facebook page.  Each month, fans will vote on the submissions and the winner will be given a prize and the honor of having their story read at the 25th Anniversary Dinner and gala event in November.

House of Tricks is located at 114 E. 7th St., Tempe.
