Safe-T Patrolling Downtown Tempe
New Safe-T-Patrol Guides keep the streets of Downtown Tempe safe

You may have noticed some new faces patrolling the streets of the Mill Avenue District.  As of December 15th, the Safe-T-Patrol Guides, a welcoming and secure presence for workers and visitors to the area, have begun making their rounds in the area.  The Guides can be found patrolling throughout the entire district including Tempe Town Lake for at least 12 hours a day.  Their duties include assisting in crime prevention, addressing street population issues and safety issues, assisting the local police, providing information and hospitality services, and aiding in emergency situations.

Each Guide is garbed in yellow and black, making them highly visible and easy to identify.  The Safe-T-Patrol is linked to a dispatch office in order to answer any visitor questions on attractions, locations, businesses, or other services provided by the Mill Avenue District.  They also have a direct line to the Tempe Police to insure quick responses to any emergency situation.

Guides will be available:

Throughout the Downtown Tempe area

Monday through Saturday from 11:30am - 8pm

Sundays from 9am - 5:30pm

At Tempe Town Lake

Monday through Sunday from 9am - 4:30am

To request assistance from a Safe-T-Patrol Guide, please call 480-355-6065.

The Safe-T-Patrol is the newest program implemented by the Downtown Tempe Community aimed at enhancing positive public perceptions and experiences in the area. CleaniT, an on-street cleaning and maintenance patrol, began operating in November 2010 and has been highly successful in their efforts including prompt graffiti removal, waste removal, repairing damaged street banners, and more.

Thursday, January 19, 2012

As the holiday season winds down, the entertainment season is gearing up in Downtown Tempe. Get your boots on for this month's Third Thursday as Rose's Pawn Shop brings their edgy country sound to Hayden Station Amphitheater on January 19. Billboard Magazine Music World Series winners, Rose's Pawn Shop gets their name from just that- the day the lead singer's ex-girlfriend took his instruments to the pawn shop. Don't let the sad story fool you, the alternative style music will have your boots scootin' all night. Local band Ragamuffin Stampede will open at 6pm and Rose's Pawn Shop will take the stage at 7pm. Ragamuffin Stampede also brings a twang-y feel good attitude to the stage that will keep a smile on your face. Bring your friends and family for a great night, and don't forget to challenge yourself to a mechanical bull ride while you're there.

Thursday, January 19, 2012

While out in the Mill Avenue District for Third Thursday, be sure to check out the food and drink specials going on at our local restaurants, visit Here on The Corner for Local Designer Night, and see the musicians featured for Music on Mill throughout the sidewalks of the Mill Avenue District. You'll be sure to see all kinds of performers showcased- from jazz bands, violinists, guitar players, to pianists. Look for the red 'Music on Mill' signs to locate the musicians on each street. And of course while you're listening to the musicians on Mill, look out for mad bag giveaways as well as a social media scavenger hunt and much more! We look forward to seeing you.

This month's featured Music on Mill Artist:

Todd Owens is a local musician who has spent half his life writing and playing original music. Though he has put in his time as a lead singer and guitar player for well-known local bands, he found his true passion composing and performing his own songs which can be found on his acoustic album "In Todd We Trust." After years of extensive and strenuous touring Todd dedicated himself to taking a positive introversive look at life in 2005. He said "I am thankful I got to get most of the hard times of my life off my chest through my words, but after a while I was completely over it, and felt like I was constantly telling stories about who I used to be, and not who I had become and who I wanted to be." It was then that he focused his positive vibes on both his acoustic career and his creation, the band "Seventy Five Summers" and has never looked back. Since then Todd has performed on Arizona television shows, Alice Cooper's Proof is in the Pudding- during which he took runner up to the winner last year, and has brought his original compositions and acoustic sound to the ears of residents all over Arizona. We are so pleased to introduce him as the Featured Artist for January Third Thursday.

A new ice cream sandwich shop, Slickables, hits Mill Avenue

You can never have enough dessert options. Slickables, a new ice cream shop, will be opening their doors at the Brickyard on Mill within the next few weeks. Owners Tina Chau and Sam Chang will be serving up their concept of "sandwiches that are lickable" which translates to homemade ice cream sandwiches encased in original recipe cookies. Customers will have their choice of 8-10 types of cookies and 12 flavors of ice cream to mix and match at will. A special menu feature will see new creations each week such as the Peanut Butter Pretz cookie, which combines a peanut butter cookie with ol' fashioned pretzels. All cookies are made in house by bakers, baking assistants, and served by a house-trained staff. Slickables will be located at 699 S. Mill Avenue, Suite 117 next to La Bocca Urban Pizzeria & Wine Bar.
