College Adds New Bachelor of Science Degree, Online Certified Financial Planner™Certification Program

Virginia Beach - Bryant & Stratton College (BSC) announced a major expansion of its financial planning programs, including the introduction of a new Bachelor of Science in Financial Services degree and the ability to complete the Certified Financial Planner™ Education Program entirely online. Starting in fall 2009, the expanded program will provide students with greater employment opportunities in the industry while offering increased flexibility with class schedules.
"We're seeing an increase in demand for financial planners for two basic reasons," said Jack Mitchell, vice president of the Professional Skills Center for the college. "First is the basic supply and demand of the industry. More people are now seeking consultation on their financial future. At the very same time many baby boomers are beginning to retire and they too require more guidance from professionals."
Online Certified Financial Planning (CFP)®Program
"We have worked closely with industry professionals and leading academic publishers to develop an online program that meets the continuing education needs of busy financial service professionals," said Mitchell.
The new Online CFP®Certification Education Program builds on the success of Bryant & Stratton's current program, which offers courses in insurance, tax, estate, personal financing, investment and retirement planning in a traditional classroom setting. The new online program provides busy professionals with the support and flexibility they need to prepare for the CFP® Certification Exam entirely online. Courses within the CFP® certification program start every two months, and feature webinar conferences, discussion boards, access to the college's virtual library and self-paced training. Online sessions are led by experienced professionals from the industry and are vibrant and interactive. Students can enroll in the full CFP® certification program, or individual courses, based on their personal and professional needs.

Bachelor of Science - Financial Services Degree
The new Bachelor of Science degree, which can be completed within three years, features a blended learning experience where students can mix the classroom setting with online courses to meet their educational and training needs.
"We have designed a program that will give students the flexibility to pursue careers within the financial industry in accounting, financial planning and financial service management," said Eric Harrell, coordinator of the Bachelor of Science degree. "The training our graduates receive will provide them with the ability to work in a variety of settings, including banks, tax firms, insurance agencies and brokerage houses."
Students that have already earned a bachelor's degree can complete the CFP® certificate program with as few as seven online courses and be prepared for the CFP® exam. Degree and certificate students will be prepared to sit for the CFP® exam, the pre-eminent mark of distinction in the profession.
To prepare students, the program requires students to take business, accounting and finance courses in addition to the essential liberal arts course series required for career success and mobility. Students will also develop knowledge, skills and competency in estate planning, investments, insurance, tax, retirement planning, and employee benefits planning as part of this specialized degree and certificate program.
