Dark Horse Chocolates to Sponsor CADI and Freestyle 2009...Serious Fun
On Board for Fourth Year of Sponsorship.
Dark Horse Chocolates were inspired by the magic of the partnership between horse and rider, pairing only the finest ingredients with designs that capture the noble beauty of the horse.
Phyllis LeBlanc, creator of Dark Horse Chocolates, is an avid dressage enthusiast. She designed and developed Dark Horse Chocolates as a graduate school project while studying for her MBA at Boston University. At the time she was employed by Harbor Sweets, a gourmet chocolate business based in a little red brick factory building on the coast in Salem, MA.
Phyllis began at Harbor Sweets as a candy dipper working part time to finance her college education and worked her way up as the company grew. Shortly after launching Dark Horse Chocolates, she purchased Harbor Sweets.
Phyllis continues to pursue her passion for excellence, both in the art of chocolate-making and dressage. The company has a long history of philanthropy supporting both human services organizations and equestrian organizations through donations and sponsorships.
The English Assortment features pure dark sweet chocolate in the breathtaking images of classical dressage, the pulse quickening excitement of grand prix jumping and inspired by our own fond memories, a certain small pony whose escapades are legend.
The Hunt Collection combines smooth milk chocolate in the classic designs of the hunt, horses and hounds, the iconic hunt cap and the traditional hunt horn and fox.
The newest creation, Trail Mix, is a delectable combination of toasted almonds, pecans, cranberries and our fabulous almond butter crunch covered in a 70% cacao dark chocolate.
For the fourth year in a row Dark Horse Chocolates is a major sponsor of Freestyle 2009...Serious Fun for the benefit of Bear Spot Foundation. All audience members will be treated to a sample of this decadent and sumptious chocolate treat. The riders at both CADI and Freestyle 2009 will receive gift boxes of chocolate and there will be a Dark Horse Chocolate offering in the raffle that will take place on Sunday October 4 during Freestyle 2009...Serious Fun. A sweet treat for the rider, trainer, blacksmith, veterinarian or the backyard enthusiast in your life, the Dark Horse Chocolates collection fits the bill as an always welcome gift for any occasion.

Bringing Natural Horsemanship to Dressage: From Training Level to the Grand Prix
Gary Smith and Gerrit Claes Bierenbroodspot Headline Clinic for Difficult or Young Horses On October 5 and 6.
Bear Spot Farm is hosting a combined clinic featuring Gerrit Claes Bierenbroodspot of the Netherlands and Gary Smith of Wellington, Florida.
This special clinic will be a combination of classical dressage lessons and work with difficult or young horses. Gary and Claes will work separately or as a team depending upon the needs of the horse and rider.
Gerrit-Claes was an instructor at the Dutch Instructor School at Deurne for 16 years and the Head Instructor for the graduating classes during the last 7 years. Prior to this, he was the trainer and chef d'equip of the Dutch National Jr/YR 3-Day Event Team. He has over 35 years of experience in teaching, from training level through Grand Prix.
His experience in the saddle includes dressage, show jumping, and eventing in which he rode internationally. His dressage clinics in the United States and Europe are extremely popular and fill quickly without public announcement or promotion.
Gerrit Claes' unique dressage method is founded upon the use of the natural desire of the horse to move forward. His technique involves teaching the rider how to follow this desire to move without using aids that restrict the horse's momentum. In this way the rider helps to balance the horse through forward energy which in turn creates more impulsion. This increases balance and ultimately helps the horse to express their gaits; it allows them to easily obey the rider's aids thus creating a partnership based on mutual trust.
Gary Smith is an expert in dealing with difficult or untrained horses. He uses humane methods to build confidence and help them work through behaviors such as rearing, bolting, bucking and stopping. He rides for most of the top trainers in Wellington, Florida and therefore has ridden many of the elite horses in the United States.
Gary began his career working with race horses and steeplechase horses moving to jumpers and dressage horses over the years. With over 3 decades of experience, Gary brings insight into the mind of the horse along with empathy and feel to training or re-training.
This unique clinic will be held at Bear Spot Farm in Concord, MA. For more information or to reserve a spot contact Jane Karol at jane@watermill.com or call Bear Spot Farm at (978) 287- 1409.
Cost: Gary Smith: $90. per session
Claes Bierenbroodspot: $125. per session
To work with both in one session: $190. |
