Freestyle 2009
Serious Fun!
New Format Announced
The Bear Spot Foundation for Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (www.bearspotfoundation.org) announces a new format for this year's Freestyle event.
On Sunday October 4, Freestyle 2009, a yearly fundraiser for the foundation, will feature the top dressage riders in the United States and Canada performing musical freestyles; for the first time, a total of $5,000. in prize money will be awarded to the top finishers. All of the members of the audience will be provided with key pads so that they can vote for their favorite horse and rider combination. In addition, the riders will be judged by a panel of the nation's top dressage judges. In the event of a tie, their scores will help determine the winner.
"This has been such an exciting event for the riders and the audience. We are thrilled to bring an added dimension. The usual constraints within freestyle competition will not be applied here. We want the riders to be as creative as they would like with the music and movements." states Dr. Jane Karol, Founding Director of Bear Spot Foundation.
There will be no entry fee required of the riders and the slots will be filled by rider request and invitation. "We would like to have our roster complete by the middle of the show season so that we can really promote our riders and the event." said Dr. Karol. "If someone has a Grand Prix Musical Kur and would like to participate, they should definitely contact us. We are looking for top notch competitors who really want to entertain and show off good horsemanship!"

Children of the Americas
Dressage Invitational
CADI Showcases the Best of the Best
CADI is the only competition of its' kind in the United States. This USDF and USEF recognized event is exclusively for children between the ages of 12 and 14. It features riders from South and Central America, The Islands, Mexico, Canada and The United States, all brought together for a week of training and international competition.
New for 2009 is a working affiliation with Lendon Gray's Dressage 4 Kids www.dressage4kids.org) and the addition of the FEI Children's Preliminary Test at all of the Centerline Events Dressage Shows. (www.centerlineevents.com)
The Children of the Americas Dressage Invitational is hosted by The Bear Spot Foundation for Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy. The idea behind CADI is to create a common bond among the children using their love of horses as a catalyst. All of the participants leave with many happy memories and numerous email addresses!
The children are nominated by their country's federations and qualify according to the individual nation's criteria. Children traveling from South and Central America, Mexico and The Islands compete in Section A, on borrowed horses, and children from The United States and Canada compete in Section B on their own horses.
During CADI Week, each child has the undivided attention of top national and international dressage trainers. Each child is assigned an instructor and for the two days prior to the competition receives lessons on the horse they draw. In addition, that trainer coaches them during the competition, which consists of the FEI Children's Preliminary Test and a Freestyle.
During CADI 2008, every trainer expressed delight in the high level of riding and the fact that each child on a borrowed horse created a freestyle in their own country with no knowledge of the type of horse they would draw; "Amazing to watch them go down center line to their music and see it works...beautifully!"
CADI 2009 takes place at Bear Spot Farm in Concord, Massachusetts from September 29 through October 3.

Brittany Lincoln off to California
Working Student for Jan Ebeling
Young Rider Brittany Lincoln will be taking the next step toward a dream that began when she was a young girl of five. The very first time she rode, she proclaimed that she would be "riding for the rest of my life." and ride she has!
It all began with the first riding lesson on "Lady" a school horse that belonged to a local barn. Weekly lessons lead to horse shows and eventually to Pony Club where she was able to compete in dressage, show jumping ,cross-country, mounted games, vaulting and all of the educational opportunities available to Pony Clubbers.
She found during her Pony club years that she was consistently drawn to dressage. At the tender age of ten, she took her pony "Rusty" for a lesson with Sharon McCusker of Souhegan Farm in Ashby, MA. Brittany was elated with her first official dressage lesson. "Rusty" how ever was not! Realizing that her pony was more interested in jumping stone walls and brush boxes than in doing dressage movements, Brittany found him a wonderful eventing home where he could continue the sport he loved so much.
Enter "Daisy" a Thoroughbred mare. The pair quickly moved up the levels and at the age of twelve, Brittany earned her Bronze Medal.
Brittany felt that she needed to expand her practical equestrian knowledge and became a working student for Kelli Ann Kinney of Jest-A-Bit Farm in Pepperell, MA. Kelli Ann has competed and trained horses and riders to the Grand Prix, and also happens to compete in Reining. Brittany's experience working with Kelli Ann gave her insight into the Dressage and Reining worlds, as well as the business end of equestrian sports.
Just before her fourteenth birthday, Brittany became a working student for Pam Goodrich of Foster Meadow in Boscowen, NH. Pam was instrumental in the purchase of Brittany's current dressage partner, "Tai Pan". The pair earned a USDF Silver Medal in 2007 and a spot on the Region 8 FEI Junior/Young Rider Team in 2008. The highlight of their partnership was their trip to the FEI North American Junior/Young Rider Championships in Colorado.
Brittany has always understood the financial strains of competing and training and with these in mind, she began working for Bellewether, LLC-Judy Nason Stables in Ashby, MA. Always willing to learn as much as possible about riding and training, Bellewether gave her the opportunity to experience the training, showing, breeding and sales of a nationally recognized Morgan Horse barn.
Brittany is currently working for Jane Karol at Bear Spot Farm in Concord, MA and over the past winter had the opportunity to spend some time in Florida with Kathy Connelly.
It is no wonder Jan Ebeling called Brittany "one to watch" and invited her to apply for a working student position with him when she graduated from high school! Brittany will be leaving for California at the beginning of August.
Keep an eye out for this rising young star...she is ready to take the dressage world by storm!
