Consul General Ido Aharoni Visits Philadelphia

By Chanah Dulin

Consul General Daniel Kutner hosted this week in Philadelphia his colleague Ido Aharoni, Consul General in New York. CG Aharoni gave a lecture at the University of Pennsylvania regarding the idea of 'Nation Branding.'

In cooperation with the Consulate General of Israel to the Mid-Atlantic Region, the Marketing Undergraduate Students Establishment at Wharton School of Business (MUSE) hosted the event. Deputy Consul Raslan Abu Rukun introduced CG Aharoni, who lectured for about an hour about managing the 'brand' of the nation of Israel.

Nation brands are important concepts of foreign relations, as they are used as tools to measure public perceptions towards a country, and can also help improve views of that country.
United Hatzalah: Providing First-Reponse Medical Care on "Ambucycles" From Israel21c

Arab and Jewish volunteer medics outside the Hatzalah headquarters in Jerusalem.
Jerusalem traffic jams can do a lot more harm than making you late to work - stalled traffic can steal precious minutes away from emergency medical response teams and those in desperate need of medical care.

That is where United Hatzalah, Israel's only all-volunteer emergency response organization, comes into the picture.
Founded by American-born Eli Beer, the organization dispatches medics by foot or moped to neighbors in need while they wait for an ambulance

United Hatzalah currently boasts 1,600 trained Arab and Jewish volunteers. The award winning organization "demonstrates that people who could be enemies prefer instead of save each other's lives."

Israelis and Palestinians Join Forces to Restore Eco-Park From Green Prophet

Putting political differences aside, Israelis and Palestinians unite to restore a section of the Kishon River - one of the region's most polluted.

The Kishon River, which runs through the Gilboa mountains and empties into the Mediterranean, is one of the most polluted rivers in the region.
Together, Israelis and Palestinians are creating a long-term solution to the pollution of the Kishon.

The Gilboa Council and Jenin are working to create two restorative parks on either side of the river. These parks will reduce the pollution of the river and outlying areas over time, thereby boosting the economies of the region.

This is not the first joint Israeli-Palestinian eco-project to take place. Cooperation on green projects can help sow the seeds for lasting peace between the groups.
