granolaCalorie Counting in "Healthy" Foods

Think granola is a lighter breakfast option than bacon? Think again: One cup packs the same caloric punch as 10 slices. The Daily Beast compiled a list of 13 foods that give burgers and doughnuts a run for their money.

With Memorial Day cookouts behind us and swimsuit season looming, now seems the perfect time to examine just what we've been putting in our mouths. To keep it simple, The Daily Beast looked only at calories-those basic units that are guaranteed to make you gain weight, if you don't compensate with activity. Factors like nutritional value, fat, sodium, and sugar aren't considered. But if you think you've been eating "healthy" and found your waistline mysteriously expanding, the equations might explain why.

Water Safety Tips

According to CDC data, drowning is the leading cause of death in Arizona among children 1-4 years of age. As the weather heats up, more families will head to the pool. Tucson Medical Center and Safe Kids Tucson offer these tips to make sure your pool time is safe and fun.
  • Always appoint a designated water watcher, taking turns with other adults.
  • Never take your eyes off children in water - not even for a moment.
  • Always keep a phone nearby for emergencies
  • Always mount life saving devices near the pool
  • Always teach children to swim after age 4
  • Always remove toys from the pool after use so children aren't tempted to reach for them and fall in
  • Always secure the pool, hot tub or spa area after the children are done swimming
  • Never consider your children to be "drown proof" because they have taken swimming lessons

Christmas Tree Worms; Bonaire 2008

These beautiful sea creatures are actually tube building worms commonly known as Christmas tree worms. The spirals or crowns are part of their respiratory structure. They are also used for feeding. The feather-like tentacles allow any prey that are trapped in them to be transported straight towards the worm's mouth.

Christmas tree worms are common inhabitants of coral reefs. These were photographed by David in the waters of Bonaire, a small island located in the southern Caribbean.
