Dear Friends, Family, and Valued Clients:
Welcome to the new look of D.M. Lovitt Insurance Agency. Our website redesign is almost finished and, not to out-do ourselves, but we decided to freshen up our newsletter along with it. We've added new features including a photo of the month, highlighting pictures David has taken around the world. As the newsletter continues to evolve and improve, watch for more new features in the coming months. Of course, with the new website almost here, the best is yet to come.
Stay tuned...

Happy Birthday Tucson!
The Old Pueblo is turning 234 this month. The city's birthday is officially recognized as August 20, 1775. It was on this date that Captain Hugo O'Conor selected the site for the Presidio San Agustin del Tucson, in what is now downtown Tucson. Tucson became part of Mexico when it fought for independence in 1821. After the Gadsden Purchase in 1854, Tucson fell under the jurisdiction of the United States.
To celebrate, a number of special events will happen around town. For a list of the festivities, visit the City of Tucson's official birthday website at www.tucsonsbirthday.org.

Back To School
It's that time of year when kids are heading off to college. Parents and students are busy purchasing school supplies, text books, and dorm room furnishings. But have you thought to make sure your child has adequate health insurance? It's important to make sure your child will continue to be covered under your health insurance plan once they head off to school, especially if they're attending an out-of-state university. Does your plan offer a network of physicians in the city where the university is located? Will a visit to the doctor or urgent care be covered as in-network. You'll also want to check your coverage to find out what the definition of a dependent is. Most plans will cover dependent children up to a certain age, as long as they qualify as a full time student. If you need to find a separate plan for your college student, there are options, including Student Medical Insurance. For more information, visit our website at dmlovitt.com or give us a call. We're happy to answer any questions you may have. |

Hammerhead Shark
This photo, shot in August 2007, was taken in the waters off the Cocos Islands, about 400 miles southwest of Costa Rica.
10 The average number of humans killed by sharks each year 20 to 100 million The estimated number of sharks killed by humans each year
Millions of sharks are killed by humans each year, many the victims of shark finning - a practice where the fins are sliced off the live shark and the rest is discarded at sea . The primary use of the fins is shark-fin soup, a Chinese delicacy. The loss of these sharks may have vast consequences. "Most sharks, as top predators, are important to keeping marine ecosystems in balance and their loss is likely to have negative, cascading effects on numerous species and processes," explains Sonja Fordham, Project AWARE Foundation partner, Shark Alliance policy director and the Ocean Conservancy shark conservation program director. For more information about the campaign to restore and conserve shark populations visit projectaware.org or sharkalliance.org.information courtesy of padi.com and sharkinformation.org
