The experts are telling us that by the end of August this year there could be as many as 100,000 new cases of swine flu every day.

It seems inevitable that, if this figure is accurate, Swine Flu will have a significant impact on staffing of all businesses and in particular community pharmacy.

PL-UK are developing emergency plans to supply locum pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to community pharmacies to enable them to continue to provide a service which will be even more important than normal during an acceleration in Swine Flu cases.

Emergency work can mean emergency rates but I would ask that locums are sensible at this critical time and don't get too greedy. The pandemic will pass, and locum coordinators do have long memories!

We ask locum pharmacists to let us know on a daily basis if they are available to work the following day.
