Greetings!

Since we just celebrated Labor Day, it seemed a perfect time to salute the ladies who will soon have a labor day of their own! St. Francis has long been the first choice of new moms for obstetrical services in the Upstate, and with good reason: we offer updated amenities, a technologically-advanced Neonatal Care Unit, support for nursing moms, and caring and knowledgeable nurses. Choosing the Right OB/GYN
from St. Francis Baby

Finding an OB/GYN is a personal decision, and one of the most important decisions you can make concerning your health. After all, this is the doctor who can help if you are having trouble conceiving, the doctor who will guide you through nine months of pregnancy and, most importantly, ensure the safe arrival of your new baby.

The first step in choosing an OB/GYN is to ask trusted friends for their recommendations. Once you have a list of potential physicians, check their qualifications to ensure that they are board- eligible or certified. Another factor is convenience of a physician's location: proximity makes it much easier to arrive to appointments on time, so you may want to choose a doctor close to home or work. This is especially relevant during pregnancy, as you will be going to the doctor at least once a month, and even more frequently in the third trimester.

Once you have found a physician that is qualified and convenient to you, make an appointment to see if your philosophy of pregnancy and childbirth is a good match. If you have specific wants and needs about childbirth, this is the appropriate time to ensure your potential doctor is on board with your ideas.

Also, if you have your heart set on having a St. Francis baby, be sure to ask if the doctor routinely delivers at ST. FRANCIS eastside. Our online Physician Search can help you find the right OB/GYN for you: doctors can be searched by name, practice or specialty, and you can learn about their location,
see their qualifications, background and more!

Keeping Baby Safe

Did you know that September is National Baby Safety Month? Now's a great time to do the little things you need to ensure that baby is always safe:
  • Schedule a Car Seat Safety Check. Infants less than one year and 20 pounds should be rear-facing with the car seat centered in the back, and your child must still be in a car seat until they are four years old and weigh at least 40 pounds. St. Francis offers seat checks once a month, and it's easy to register online >>
  • Enroll in a Infant/Child CPR class. The American Heart Association class offered at St. Francis covers the basics of CPR, including instruction on choking relief techniques, emergency resuscitation and rescue breathing for infants and children. View calendar >>
  • If you're breastfeeding, check out our full library of downloadable resources written by our certified Lactation Consultants. There's advice on whether or not you can breastfeed when sick, feeding requirements, and answers to other burning questions. Can't find what you're looking for? Our Lactation Consultants are available via our Breastfeeding Information Line at 675-4215.
