Growing
Our Future

Research shows
that community
gardens can restore
neighborhoods and
promote physical,
social and emotional
well-being. With this
in mind, St. Francis
has partnered with
Leadership Greenville Class 35 to develop
a community garden
on the campus of
ST. FRANCIS
downtown. The
garden will serve
as a source of
engagement for
the community and
our employees. The
garden also will be
a source of fresh
produce and visual
beauty, as well as a
basis for educational
sessions on healthy
living, nutrition and
environmental
sustainability.

If you would like to
help by adopting
a plot, completing
occasional projects,
or lending some
gardening expertise,
please call 255-1328
or send an email.

Greetings!

As warmer weather lures us out of our homes and winter coats, we're renewed with energy and vitality. So throw open the windows (unless you're an allergy sufferer, then read below) and soak up the sunshine... spring has arrived!

Spring is In the Air!

Spring is indeed in the air, and in the Upstate, that means beautiful blossoming trees and plants - which also means lots of eye-itching, sneeze-inducing pollen.

For many, the sniffling, sneezing and itchy eyes of allergy season last only for a short time, but for those with chronic sinusitis, allergy season can be more than just an inconvenience. Sinusitis can be triggered by seasonal allergies, leaving many with facial congestion, headaches, fatigue and even dental pain for eight weeks or longer.

If medicines are not effective in opening the sinuses, Sinus MiniSurgery at St. Francis may be the answer. A new technology called balloon sinuplasty opens blocked sinus passages entirely through the nostrils, which can result in reduced bleeding and post-procedure discomfort. During the procedure, a catheter is guided into the sinuses and a small balloon inflates to open previously blocked passageways.

If your allergies are more on the mild side, remember these tips:
  • Try over-the-counter antihistamines
  • Keep your home's doors and windows closed
  • Limit outdoor activity, particularly in the morning
  • Take a shower and change clothes after being outside for an extended time

Are You Happy in Greenville?

We are, and we're proud to share it! St. Francis has created a new website for newcomers to the Upstate to show off the best of Greenville and its surrounding areas. At happyingreenville.com, you can learn about our City's Secrets in an interactive format, find a doctor, and learn more about what St. Francis has to offer. Take a few minutes to play on the new site, and be sure to send it to anyone you know who is new to the area!
