Welcome back to the Target Zone:

As I write this month's newsletter I am sitting in the San Diego airport waiting to fly home to go Elk hunting.   Can you believe it is October 10th? Seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the 4th of July. We are very excited with all that is happening at CTS. The additional gunsmith services we are now offering and the additional gunsmith on staff is long overdue. Read about the gunsmith evolution below.   Our classes continue to fill and our FREE Clinics are a huge success. None of this would be possible without your support. Peggy and I and the entire staff are very grateful for your support.

The elections are close at hand... We need to vote...Please vote. As for the local elections, I am asking everyone who reads this email to ask one or two friends to accompany you to the polls. Imagine if that really happens. We would have an outstanding leader as our new Kootenai County Sheriff and make a real contribution to the National election. Please see my article on Bob Foster below.

The Glock rep will not be here in November as was previously listed. Due to personnel changes and schedule conflicts our new Glock rep will be at CTS in December in support of our GSSF match. Matt Chen was promoted in the Glock organization and our new rep will be Kyle Hopp. Mark your calendars as you don't want to miss the opportunity to have the master Glock armor work on you gun for FREE!   We like FREE!

Last chance to get your CTS around the world pics in. Next month's newsletter will have all your pics in for the masses to vote on a winner. So if you have a picture from your travels wearing any CTS logo items get them in and have a chance for a great prize. Readers who have not submitted pics, get ready to vote for a winner. Submissions to peggy@centertargetsports.com

New products continue to come into the store. We are doing everything possible to stay ahead of the anticipated firearms and ammo shortages. Our vendors are trying to keep pace as well. I believe we will all just have to hold on and hope for the best. As an example, a few weeks ago I was at a meeting with 10 other ranges...between the 11 ranges we had over 400 S&W M&P Shields on backorder.

With the continued increase in demand for our facility many of you will be happy with a decision we made this month. We have decided to change the way Law Enforcement agencies access our facility. We have decided not to renew the contract process with all but one agency. CTS will always support our local law enforcement agencies. However now the agencies will access our range on a daily use fee rather that a yearly contract. What this means to our patrons is a lot more range access during the winter months. We heard your concerns about available range time and we feel we have answered your call for action. The range will be available to LE on those few days when the weather requires them to be indoors but with the daily rate system they will not use our facility when they can go outdoors. The end result for our patrons is you will have more days of range access.

Can you say Grid Wall and Store Fixtures? We sure can. As a result of our recent retail area facelift we now have a number of store fixtures and excess grid wall for sale. We have 100's of 2'x6' and 2'x8' grid wall panels and 1000's of item pegs for sale at unbelievable prices.   We also have a number of store fixtures that we no longer need. Please contact Stephanie, Ken, Ed or Peggy if you want to see the items.

A word about the Utah and Idaho CCW process. Now that Utah requires applicants have their home state CCW permit prior to applying or renewing the Utah permit, many students who have taken our 8hr Utah CCW course are asking for a Utah certificate so they can apply for the Idaho CCW. Sorry, but our 8hr Utah program does not qualify for the Idaho certificate of training. Idaho requires a firearms safety class by an LE or NRA certified instructor.   We have the instructor part covered however the Utah curriculum dictated by the State of Utah does not cover the firearms issues necessary for Idaho. So if you have a DD214, hunter safety, or any other firearms safety class in you past you merely need to show that to the sheriff's dept to make application for the Idaho CCW permit. If you do not have any formal firearms training that you can document, then the most cost effective way to obtain that training is to take our Idaho CCW class.

A Call to Arms...

The upcoming election is a critical opportunity for all Kootenai County citizens to step up and make a difference. I do not want to get too melodramatic here, but we may never again have such an opportunity to greatly improve our Sheriff Department's leadership.

In my mind it comes down to the issue of "Do You Want A Lobbyist or a Lawman for a Sheriff?" Throughout this election I have encouraged the voters to look at the issues and the qualifications of each candidate. During the primaries I resisted the urge to endorse any one candidate. This battle is coming down to the wire.

I am voting for a Lawman and his name is Bob Foster. If you look at his credentials and compare them to the other candidates to include Ben Wolfinger, you will see there is no comparison. Bob is running as an independent because he was smart enough to know he could not win in the Republican primary for all the reasons we are all too familiar with. Make no mistake, he is a Republican and he believes in the voice of the people. Imagine having that level of faith to believe that his message is so clear and so strong that he could overcome the primary system in the November general election. That folks is another indicator of Bob's belief in people and his character.

One candidate has spent his time in the department as a follower definitely not a leader and the others are just running for the sake of running. Bob Foster has run law enforcement agencies at the highest levels. He has led by example and if given the opportunity, will continue to set the standard and lead our Sheriff's department to an agency that we can all be proud of.

Bob understands the issues. Don't take my word for it, just ask him yourself or listen to him at an upcoming public appearance. Bob understands fiscal responsibility and he knows how to work within a budget. I am confident that he can and will be able to motivate his team to be better fiscally responsible and still ultimately improve the services, morale, and operations of this crucial agency.

The bottom line is clear. If we don't get out and vote the total number of candidates in this race will in and of itself split the vote and the front runner by virtue of the primary system will have a very good chance of winning.   However, if every reader of this email not only votes but takes two friends to the polls with them, Bob Foster can and will win. The numbers are that close in this race.

The shooting community can make a difference. We can actually play a major role in electing a conservative, ethical, dedicated candidate who is also a man who not only possesses extremely high morals and leadership qualities he demonstrates them on a daily basis. Please join me in sending a strong message to all candidates in all areas of our local government. The message is that we are a government by the people, for the people and the people (you & me) have more than just a voice, we can make a change!   See you at the polls.

New gunsmith hours and services
We've got an Additional Gunsmith in the House!

Peggy and I and the entire staff are very excited to announce a tremendous increase to the number of hours of onsite gunsmith services currently available to our customers. We have also dramatically increased our services offered by our gunsmith department.

Wow, that sounds funny saying "gunsmith department". But that is in fact what we have established. In the past, many of you knew that Cam was providing gunsmith services for us as an independent, operating and owning his separate gunsmith business. He will still do his custom gunsmith work but now we have added a new gunsmith and actually established a very comprehensive list of gunsmith services that go way beyond those services offered by Cam's Repair. We now have a dynamic duo!

That's right, Center Target Sports is now officially in the gunsmith business. Our new gunsmith (Gio) has a college degree in Gunsmithing and will be available on Monday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday mornings. These hours will be adjusted as the demand for service increases.

Spread the word about these exciting new services and bring in a firearm or two so that we may dazzle you with our quality of work, value and turnaround time. The list of increased services is too long to list here. Please check with our staff to see if our services match your needs.

October 17th Free Clinic - Gunshot Trauma, Accidental Shootings

  CCW Clinic

At the last Free Clinic we asked about Gun Shot trauma as a topic for the next FREE clinic. We were blown away (no pun intended) by the response. So our Oct 17th FREE clinic will be on the immediate response to gunshot wounds.

Statistically, the steps taken immediately following gunshot trauma can have a definite effect on the majority of cases.

When you look at the 3 most common ways gunshot victims die this becomes obvious. The percentages are as follows; 60% die from Exsanguinations from extremity wounds (bleeding out), 33% from Tension Pneumothorax, and an additional 6% from Airway problems. Our gunshot trauma kit and the free clinic discussion and demonstrations will allow you to address the vast majority of gunshot wounds.

If you hunt, target shoot, or carry a firearm you cannot afford to miss this free clinic.  Please call the range to reserve your spot.  208-773-2331

November 20 Free Clinic-State CCW Comparisons

Back by popular demand is our review of the neighboring State CCW laws and a comparison of how they impact a CCW traveler. We will discuss the variations of carry requirements of each State as they compare to Idaho. The States we will analyze are Idaho, Washington, Montana, Utah and Oregon.

Please call the range to reserve your spot.  208-773-2331

Do you have an idea for a free clinic?   Please send your ideas to peggy@centertargetsports.com  .  Thank you.

Michael Janich Videos are in Stock. We are proud to announce that we are one of Michael's dealers and are able to stock his great videos. We are stocking his entire collection. They obviously include his awesome knife series but he has also produced a number of great hand to hand and improvised weapons videos. Gunshot Trauma Kits

gswOur custom Gunshot Trauma Kits are now in stock. So many of you have asked for them and we apologize for the delay in stocking them. The major issue was the fact that some of the items needed to complete the kit are controlled items and not easily purchased. We are very proud of these kits as they contain the necessary items to provide immediate catastrophic care to a gunshot wound. This kit is capable of treating the 3 most common critical issues often found in gunshot victims.

AR parts

We have recently received over $6,000.00 in AR parts. I'm talking about barrels, springs, triggers, pins, detents, safeties, bolts, and just about every part you need to build an AR. It is our intent to stock every part necessary to support your efforts to build, modify or customize your AR. We are negotiating with quality manufacturers to get stripped receivers and furniture at the best prices available for your purchase as well. Many of these parts are too small to be on the retail floor so if you don't see it on the shelf ask a staff member as we have a huge stock in the gunsmith area.

 OC Pepper Spray-October 29

 sabre
One of the best less-lethal methods of defense is the proper use of Pepper Spray (OC).  Now you can learn all about this very effective method of defense.

Perhaps you are looking for an alternative to a firearm or want to supplement your defense system with a less-lethal tool.  Then the OC class is for you.  Do you walk your dog after dark? OC may be for you.

You may have a family member who does not want to carry a firearm or may not be allowed to carry where they work or go to school.  Send them to this class so they will learn to be protected in a very unassuming manner.

Cane Defense For Everyone and Every Age!
cane
October 29th

This is cane defense NOT Cane Martial Arts.  Our cane defense class is all about techniques that work on the street and are applicable to any age and any physical condition.

This class is for everyone!  Don't be intimidated and think you are too small or too old.  The cane is a great equalizer.

Peggy and I just traveled through a number of European countries and we had our cane with us the entire time.  The cane was never questioned at any airport and we had all the protection afforded to us through the use of the cane.

Terminal Ballistics
November 24

If we peaked your interest with the October Free Clinic on Gunshot Trauma, you won't want to miss the how the trauma is caused class we call Terminal Ballistics. This is the class that will put to rest all the myths of stopping power, knockdown power and dispel much of what we see on TV and in the movies.   This class is based on fact and science as well as testing by men and woman a lot smarter than me. However, I have studied terminal ballistics for over 30 years and have been fortunate enough to surround myself with people who live this terminal ballistic life as a profession. This is a class you will not want to miss.

Terminal Ballistics

MICHAEL JANICH Janich is coming back!

Oct 27 & 28

Only a few spots left!

Don't miss this opportunity to train with Michael Janich.  You have watched him as the host of Personal Defense TV on Wednesday evenings.  Now you can experience first hand why he is recognized as one of the best Martial Blade Instructors in the world.  Last year Michael's class filled within 6 days of our newsletter announcement.  We had over 20 names on a waiting list and had to turn away so many students that Michael has agreed to return to us here in the great Northwest.

If you took the class last time he was here this is a great opportunity to further refine your skills.  Students have asked if it is the same class as last time.  The basic presentation is the same as this is a system that Michael has developed.  However, as you know, none of us who attended the first class came close to perfecting any of the skills and techniques presented.  We all need as much exposure to these elements as we can get.

$275.00.

If you've signed up for this class, you'll be receiving an email in the next week with all the details.  If you don't hear from Peggy by the 17th, please call her at the range for site information and specials.

Monthly Shooting Tip!

See What?? The Front Sight...(Cont.)

As a continuation to last month's shooting tip on "front sight focus" I felt it necessary to provide additional insight (no pun intended). Last month I discussed the importance of seeing a sharp clear front sight and even suggested ways to help you see the front sight better. Well, that is all well and good and certainly a step in the right direction. But what do we do if we have the visual ability (good close vision) to see the front sight sharp and clear but don't have the ability to concentrate on the process throughout the shot?

If you fall into that latter category of shooter, the following should help. Very often students tell me they can see the front sight but their shooting doesn't reflect it. I will typically have the student read the fine print of a business card (normally 6pt type) to verify they have the vision necessary. Often they do. If they are capable of seeing the sight but their target tells me they are not focusing on the sight then I know we can change their behavior and make them better shooters. You see, I can't change their vision, but I can help them through the mechanics of shooting.

The first step is to determine if they are closing their eyes. That's right... many of you close your eyes at the moment the shot is released. Oh, you will deny it when I ask but in fact you are closing your eyes. The easiest way for me to determine if you fall into this category is to ask you what the brass does when it leaves your gun. When you say you can't see the brass leave the ejection port, I know that you are doing one of two things....closing your eyes or looking at the target. After all, we can not dispute the fact that the brass exits the ejection port at every shot released.

The second step is to get the student to concentrate on watching the brass. After all it is impossible to watch the brass fly and look at the target. When they can describe the brass flying out of the ejection port their shot group always shrinks. Problem solved.

Hope this additional info helps with the front sight focus. Remember trust the front sight and the shots will go where you want them to go. Muzzle control (front sight alignment) and trigger control will make all the difference.
