Welcome back to the Target Zone:

WOW!! WOW!! WOW!!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You...

Words could never express our gratitude and the gratitude of our entire staff for the support you all showed during our Community Appreciation Day. To say it was a resounding success would be an understatement!

cust app

We often use the word family when we discuss our staff and our patrons but words are easily spoken and can be without much meaning. However, the word family as it pertains to our staff and you our customers is very REAL. Together, we all proved that on Sat August 11th.

cust app1Here are just a few of the highlights of the day's activities. We gave away a Glock 19, a Mossberg 500 12 GA Shotgun, a Pair of Bushnell Binoculars valued at over $500.00 and a Surefire Fury Tactical flashlight along with hundreds of smaller prizes. In addition we gave away over 500 hotdogs!

You donated over 3000 lbs of food to the Post Falls food bank that just happened to be experiencing a critical shortage of many items that you provided. 59 of you attempted to donate blood and 49 units of blood were ultimately collected. The blood bank was hoping for 27 units...WOW! Four large totes of Toys were collected for the Toys for Tots program.

We had 28 Swap meet booths which helped bring in the people driving by. The Marine Coffee trailer collected in excess of $300.00 and the Lake Country Friends of the NRA sold hundreds of dollars of raffle tickets.

boomerA very special thanks to our staff led by Stephanie who was determined to blow the blood bank's request for at least 27 donors out the window. And she did just that.

We can't forget to mention the support provided by our Bullwhip Master Joe Strain who entertained the crowd all day long despite the heat and uneven terrain. Thank you Joe. And how would you have wanted to be Boomer the Bear on one of the hottest days of the year? What a great show of support by the Spokane Chiefs organization as they allowed Boomer to be here and entertain the children.

Once again thank you to everyone for making Aug 11th a big success and now an annual event!

PHOTO ID Required - Recently we have had a few patrons come in to the range to shoot but they did not have a photo ID with them. We must have a photo ID in hand while you shoot in order to comply with our insurance company requirements. According to their policy we can't allow anyone to use the shooting range if we do not retain their photo ID while they are shooting. Please understand that this is a policy in which we must comply.

Keeping with the ID and insurance issues I would like to remind everyone that you must be 21 years old or have a parent/guardian with you to shoot if you are under 21 years old. If you are between 18 and 21 you may shoot a rifle but not a handgun.

MEET & GREET...This Friday Night

Please Come and meet Ed's Choice For SHERIFF

foster

Now is the time for us to rally around a truly great man.  During the primary election I stayed on the sidelines by not supporting any one specific candidate.  Instead I focused my efforts encouraging the voters to really analyze the candidates.

I must be honest in the back of my mind I was hoping that a really qualified candidate would decide to run for Sheriff.

Well one did.... Bob Foster.  I believe you all know how passionate I am about the Kootenai County Sheriff's department and how I feel about the need for new leadership within that organization.  I have dedicated my life to training Law Enforcement officers around the world. I spent over 9 years as a Reserve Deputy in the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department. I am very concerned about the current state of our local Sheriff's Department.

The people of Kootenai County and the men and women who work for the Sheriff's Department all deserve an agency led by a progressive thinking, compassionate, experienced, and best qualified Sheriff possible. That is why Bob Foster is my choice for Sheriff.  We cannot allow this vitally important agency within our community to continue to operate the way it has for so many years. Now is the time to elect a leader that will establish a Sheriff's Department that will be responsive to the community's needs, tough on crime, work within its budget all while providing a work environment that its employees will be proud to be a part of and ultimately serve this community like never before.

Bob wisely chose to drop out of the primary race knowing how the vote would be split between all those running.  If you look at the votes in the primary you will see for yourself that the voters split their votes and collectively Ben Wolfinger can be beat.

We need the concerned voters of Kootenai County to rally together and support the best man for the job.  A true police professional with unmatchable qualifications...Bob Foster.

Here's a thought, if all the eligible voters who read this newsletter vote for Bob, He will win the election.  But we all know not everyone will make it to the voting places so why don't we all make the effort and bring at least two friends to the poles and let's all make a difference. Or click here today to register and receive an absentee ballot.  absentee ballot request

Don't take my word for it... Please come and meet Bob for yourself.  Ask him the hard questions.  He is up for the challenge.

Please come on Friday night Sept 7th 6-8pm and show Bob that people in Kootenai County do care about their safety and the future of policing in this community.

Please Come and meet Ed's Choice For SHERIFF

Please register early so if we need to rent more chairs we will have advance notice.

MICHAEL JANICH Janich is coming back!

Oct 27 & 28

Only a few spots left!

Don't miss this opportunity to train with Michael Janich.  You have watched him as the host of Personal Defense TV on Wednesday evenings.  Now you can experience first hand why he is recognized as one of the best Martial Blade Instructors in the world.  Last year Michael's class filled within 6 days of our newsletter announcement.  We had over 20 names on a waiting list and had to turn away so many students that Michael has agreed to return to us here in the great Northwest.

If you took the class last time he was here this is a great opportunity to further refine your skills.  Students have asked if it is the same class as last time.  The basic presentation is the same as this is a system that Michael has developed.  However, as you know, none of us who attended the first class came close to perfecting any of the skills and techniques presented.  We all need as much exposure to these elements as we can get.

$275.00.

Since this is not a Center Target Sports class the "take a class forever for free" does not apply and there are no refunds.

TACTICAL PISTOL - September 8&9fof1

It is that time of year again, Tactical Pistol Class to be exact.  This is the most advanced pistol class taught anywhere in the region.  This is a two day class that requires students to conduct live fire exercises as well as Use of Force scenarios.

These are real world scenarios in a very real setting.  Each student will participate in at least 6 scripted exercises that may require any level of response from less lethal to deadly force.

Tactical Pistol

5 Day Comprehensive Handgun Sept 24th - 28th.

I guess the word is out as firing linewe are overwhelmed by requests for another 5 Day Comprehensive HG class.  The last two classes have sold out and a few of you have asked me to up the number of students to 10 from 20.  I really can't do that and keep the integrity of the class and expect the subsequent results this class has demonstrated.

Students are already signing up for this Sept class.  If improving your shooting skills is what you want to do, this is the class for you.  Every student in the last class improved their score by over 100 points by the end of the class.  With a 300 point max score, that is a significant improvement.  I am most proud of this course as it is designed to improve all shooters regardless of your skill level.

Hunting Sim Class Is back in time for the Season!

lasershotDue to the popularity of last year's Hunter Simulation program we are again offering our laser simulation hunter program.   This is a great opportunity to test your skills and verify all your hunting ethics and safe hunting practices.  Parents, what better way to test your young hunters ability to assess the shot and demonstrate their firearm and hunting skills.

We learned a few things last year as we ran the program for the first time and these lessons learned have resulted in a couple of changes.

We are now limiting the age of the participants to 10 years and older.  This is a very realistic system and participants under 10 years old just don't benefit from the class and often view the process as more of a video game.  We want to make sure we maintain a true learning environment with this program.

We experienced a lot of no-shows last year when the program was free.  So this year we have decided to charge a nominal fee of $5.00.  I guess it is that old saying of it's free it can't be worth much and showing up after signing up is no real priority.

AR Armorer Course is again being offered.

ar class
It is back and it is better!!!
Don't miss this opportunity to learn all there is to learn about the AR platform.  This is the most comprehensive AR Armorer course offered anywhere.

You don't have to travel to receive the highest level of AR Armorer training available.

We will answer your every question and teach you how to build, modify, and customize your AR correctly.  On day one you will begin to build your class AR that we provide you in a series of sandwich bags.  In a matter of hours you will transform those plastic bags into a fully functional AR.

OC Pepper Spray
 sabre

One of the best less-lethal methods of defense is the proper use of Pepper Spray (OC).  Now you can learn all about this very effective method of defense.

Perhaps you are looking for an alternative to a firearm or want to supplement your defense system with a less-lethal tool.  Then the OC class is for you.  Do you walk your dog after dark? OC may be for you.

You may have a family member who does not want to carry a firearm or may not be allowed to carry where they work or go to school.  Send them to this class so they will learn to be protected in a very unassuming manner.

Cane Defense For Everyone and Every Age!
cane
This is cane defense NOT Cane Martial Arts.  Our cane defense class is all about techniques that work on the street and are applicable to any age and any physical condition.

This class is for everyone!  Don't be intimidated and think you are too small or too old.  The cane is a great equalizer.

Peggy and I just traveled through a number of European countries and we had our cane with us the entire time.  The cane was never questioned at any airport and we had all the protection afforded to us through the use of the cane.

melThe Mel Westlake Memorial Raffle in support of the FNRA

We have tickets for the Mel Westlake memorial raffle available at CTS.  This raffle is named after my friend and a tremendous supporter of the local Lake Country Friends of the NRA annual banquet.  We lost Mel a few months ago but his spirit and his memory live on.

This is a Winners Choice Progressive Raffle that will be drawn on Sept 8th at the FNRA banquet in CDA.  The 3 guns available are the KIMBER SOLO 9mm, KELTEC KSG 15RD SHOTGUN, and the BENELLI Ultra Light 12GA.

This is how the progressive raffle works.  1-299 tickets sold = 1 person has choice of the 3 firearms. 300-499 tickets sold = 2 people get choice, Maximum of 500 tickets can be sold, if all 500 are sold = 3 people get choice.

Don't wait...Get you tickets NOW!!!

Monthly Shooting Tip!

See What????  The Front Sight...

I can't tell you how many times I have students tell me they can't see the front sight as they are aiming.  The reasons for this are many.  Some have trouble concentrating on the front sight because they are too concerned with the target.  These shooters must learn to trust their subconscious as the right side of the brain will in fact see the target and subconsciously center the sights for the shooter.

front sightOther shooters have a vision issue.  As my optometrist Dr. Rob Sorenson says it is the 50+ year old eye syndrome.  When talking to me he emphasizes the 50 + fact.  I often see these students who wear bifocals and trifocals nodding their head up and down while aiming all in an effort to get the right angle to see the sights clearly.

A solution that has worked for me personally and for many of my students is to have a pair of shooting glasses made.  This is not a complicated process but to be done correctly it should be done with a few specifics in mind.

If an optometrist made you a lens that was specific to the front sight without regard to your other vision needs you would not be happy and more than likely would constantly be running into things.  You should seek help from an optometrist that is a shooter and understands the shooting fundamentals that must be considered in your request.

Dr. Rob Sorenson of Hayden Vision Clinic is without a doubt the most experienced in this area.  Not only did Rob generously contribute his expertise to the eye physiology chapter to my book but he has helped countless shooters see the front sight like never before.

Rob knows the compromise that must be determined for each individual between a perfect front sight and the need for general visual acuity while wearing your shooting glasses.

So if you are having trouble seeing the front sight don't despair...  see your optometrist and solve the problem...  Shoot straight.
