Welcome back to the Target Zone:
What a fun place Center Target Sports is to come to work. Peggy and I along with our entire staff want to just take a minute and again thank you all for your support. The constant buzz around the facility is so exciting and the classes continuing to fill is a tremendous affirmation that we must be doing something right.
With everybody and their brother hanging a "firearms instructor" shingle these days it is very comforting to see that people recognize the difference between someone teaching firearms out of a book and what Ken and I do here with over 55 years of combined firearms teaching experience.

I want to apologize for the confusion on the Glock Representative's "No Show" during our last GSSF match. We are convinced that it truly was a computer glitch that caused the appointment to be dropped from the Rep's calendar. In fact, no one was more distressed about the situation than Matt Chen our Glock Rep. Glock was so concerned about this computer error that the resolution of the problem went all the way up the chain to the Glock VP.
Matt stopped in the other day and rebuilt every one of our Glock rental guns. When he was here he committed to be here to work on and inspect your guns during the June 18th, July 16th and Nov 19th GSSF matches. Come by to see him then...we'll be running some Glock specials.

We have decided to eliminate the 3rd party vending machines from our store and purchase our own. Effective immediately we will now offer cold drinks and snacks behind the main cash register. This way we can be more responsive to your requests for specific brand items. Finally, we can now have Coke products and Pepsi products in the same refrigerator.
REMINDER: Shooters under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a legal guardian or parent in order to shoot a handgun. Shooters between the ages of 18 and 21 may shoot a rifle without a parent or guardian present. Federal law limits the sale of handgun ammunition to shooters over the age of 21. Please don't ask us to break the law and risk our license.

On behalf of the Chamber, Center Target Sports, Cabelas and Buck Knives I want to let you know how much your participation is appreciated.

SPECIAL UTAH CCW ANNOUNCEMENT
As many of you know (we have been saying all along), it is better to have your home State CCW as well as a "MASS Accepted" State such as Utah or Florida. I know many of you agreed and took the initiative to get your home State of residence permit as well as the Utah permit. Now Utah agrees.
The Utah legislature has passed and the Governor has signed a new requirement to the Utah CCW permit application process. Please see below:
SUBJECT: New Requirement for UTAH CCW Permit
Effective May 11, 2011, anyone applying for the non-resident Utah permit, from a State that has reciprocity with Utah, (all 31 States) must submit a photo copy of their home-State CCW with their application.
This is significant. Here in Idaho many residents never bother with the Idaho permit and simply go for Utah. Now they will have to get the Idaho CCW first.
Residents of States that have no provision for CCW, such as Illinois and Wisconsin, and residents of States that do not have reciprocity with Utah are exempt. |

LaserLyte Target System

Learn shooting skills, such as unsighted fire, accuracy, grouping and trigger control. The Laser Trainer Target offers anyone the ability to practice shooting skills at almost any location, even a favorite recliner. Practice more often, become a more confident shooter and enjoy a lifetime of low-cost training with the LaserLyte Laser Trainer Target.
The Laser Trainer Target gives the user delayed shooting feedback, just like the shooting range, so the shooter can concentrate on the next shot instead of the last shot. To use the Laser Trainer Target simply aim at the target and dry fire the weapon with any LaserLyte Laser Trainer. To display impact, fire the laser at the red display circle on the face of the Laser Trainer Target. When finished, simply dry fire the laser aimed at the red reset circle to begin again with a fresh target.
At one-third the price of competitor's interactive targets, the LaserLyte Laser Trainer Target operates with three AAA batteries, good for about 6,000 shots, and can register shots up to 50 yards away. The Laser Trainer Target contains 62 laser-activated LED lights and operates without use of a computer, television or projector.

Woolrich CCW shirts
I am repeating this announcement this month as a number of you have told us you did not realize that these shirts are designed for concealed carry.
Many of you missed the CCW features that are built into these shirts as described below. We have in stock 4 styles and 4 more to come in the spring. Both CTS and Woolrich are committed to keeping current styles and colors in stock. Look for our selection to change regularly.
Despite its casual street look, the Elite CCW Shirt has been designed for quick-response performance. The cool, loose fabric drapes easily over concealed items at the waist and rapidly sweeps out of the way for fast access, thanks to the lower front magnetic button closure and hook-and-loop side-vent system. Made from polyester technical weave fabric with wicking capabilities and protection from the sun's harmful rays, the shirt features two button-front pockets. Machine wash.

Classes - Classes and More Classes!!
5-Day Comprehensive Handgun Course
It is BACK because YOU ASKED for it... Last month we offered this class and it was SOLD OUT weeks before the class date. We even had a student from Chicago in to take the class. Many of you were disappointed because the class filled up so fast. As I write this newsletter, Ken has 6 or 7 names of people who want to register for this next class offered May 9th to May 13th.
If improving your shooting skills is what you want to do, this is the class for you. Every student in the last class improved their score by over 100 points by the end of the class. On a 300 point max score that is a significant improvement. I am most proud of this course as it is designed to improve all shooters regardless of your skill level.
Cane Defense
March 15th is the night to learn some Cane Defense techniques. If you remember, a couple of months ago one of our students had to use his cane to retrieve his wife's purse while in Europe. Do not underestimate the benefits of utilizing this great equalizer that you can carry anywhere...even on an airplane.
Refuse To Be A Victim
March 15th is the night that Peggy will again offer her RTBAV class. As you know this is a course that is appropriate for everyone who could use a refresher on all the things that can keep ourselves and our families safe. It is appropriate for everyone over the age of 14 and is a great class to take as a family.
This class is 4 hrs long and cost $20.00. The entire $20.00 tuition goes to the Post Falls Police OASIS Woman's Shelter program. So come in and support a good cause and help protect yourself and your family at the same time.
Two day AR Armorer Course
April 8th and 9th is the next AR armorer course. No longer guess on how to repair, build, or troubleshoot this very popular weapons system. This is not a fluff class. You will totally assemble and disassemble the AR's that we provide for this class. This is a comprehensive hands on class. You will remove and assemble every part that can be removed from an AR.
More importantly, you will learn the tricks of the trade, use the appropriate tools, and understand this system like never before. Sign up soon as this class size is limited and will sell out.
We will supply all the tools, replacement parts, supplies and the rifles. we will even have AR tools available for sale if you want to add that special tool to your personal tool box back home.

Miscellaneous STUFF!! Just a few last minute items. We are in need of a Button Maker system. Preferably the 2.25 size buttons. We would like to use these buttons for our staff to wear and alert you of special items of interest and policy changes or sales etc... If you have or know of someone who has a button machine that is gathering dust, we would be very interested in purchasing it. Please contact Stephanie at 208-773-2331 or email Peggy at Peggy@centertargetsports.com. Special Order Policy... Reminder Effective immediately a 50% deposit will be necessary on all special orders. We have resisted this option up until now, however, so far this year we have brought in many items costing hundreds of dollars only to be told that the customer no longer wants or needs the item and we're left holding bag so to speak. Some special orders have been on our shelf for months before the customer comes in to pick the item up despite multiple calls from our staff. We hope you understand. We have no problem special ordering what you need but we can't keep bringing in items and then never completing the transaction. Firearm Owner Orientation Classes... Occasionally someone will ask to schedule a private firearm owner orientation class with Cam. We do not do this unless extreme circumstances make this a necessity. Here is the reason why. Cam when not teaching these classes as scheduled is working on our retail floor as part of the employee staffing needed to handle the customer flow. Additional staff is always present during the times he is routinely scheduled to teach these classes. To allow private scheduling of these orientation classes would leave us short on the retail floor. Ken and I are always available for private shooting classes as we are never scheduled on the floor as a primary duty. Thanks for understanding, but please do not try and pressure our staff to accommodate a private firearm orientation class. If you feel you are subject to extraordinary circumstances that require a private orientation class, please see Stephanie or myself...Thanks. |
As I write this newsletter the sun is shining and the sky is clear. It is Saturday March 12th. What a change from the weather we have been experiencing over the last few months. This weather can be a very powerful motivator as it even had me thinking about a short run. Nah...Not really!
But for some of you I bet you took advantage of this beautiful day and hit the jogging trail or bike path. So as the weather starts to improve I thought it appropriate to discuss some safety tips pertinent to these types of activities.
We here at CTS are always preaching awareness. The jogging trails are no exception! Joggers are great at setting routines. Routines create predictable opportunities for crime. Joggers also enjoy the cooler morning and evening temperatures, and add to that, headphones and music that dulls the senses. This again is creating a crime opportunity. I would suggest that if you have a dog take him/her along. They make great crime deterrents. If you don't have a dog, then recruit a friend. Don't go jogging alone in secluded areas. When you do go out for exercise, try to keep some protection with you. Even things like a walking stick or cane can make an effective weapon.
One of the most serious problems for joggers is not paying attention. It's easy to become so preoccupied with the physical act of jogging that you lose touch with the moment. You may also be busy concentrating on how much further you have to go and on putting one foot in front of the next, while not paying attention to what is happening right here, right now.
When you allow yourself to become preoccupied, you have jeopardized your security. When you are not paying attention, it gives the would-be attacker the opportunity to surprise you. Being alert and being aware is vital at all times.
Joggers seem to have the mistaken idea that because they usually do not carry large sums of money with them when they jog, they are not likely candidates for an attack. Unfortunately, that is not true. You must always be aware of your surroundings and take appropriate action to protect yourself.
Here are some Basic Safety Tips for Jogging:
- Jog with a known companion
- Jog in a familiar area
- Do not jog in a secluded area
- Do not jog after dark
- Jog facing the traffic
- If followed, go to the nearest house and call the police
- Wear bright colored clothing to improve your visibility
- Carry a pepper spray or a personal safety alarm device
- Vary your route and pattern of running
- Always be aware of your surroundings. Keep Alert!
- Jog away from bushes where someone could hide
- Take a key with you when you jog.
- Don't leave your house unlocked. Someone might be watching you and your house to see when it will be empty or unlocked.
