Welcome back to the Target Zone:

WOW !!!   FIRST Shots was a First Class Success.  Thank you so much to all the volunteers who helped make this program go so smoothly throughout the entire day.  When we started signing up participants to the first session I didn't expect to fill all three sessions but you guys surprised me.  Not only did we get a full 20 participants in each session we even had a standby waiting list.

Activity as we set the firing line.

65 students, 160 hotdogs, and 15 gallons of iced tea later and a whole bunch of shot up targets a grand time was had by all.  As I write this article we are still receiving follow up calls from participants as they desire to continue their involvement in the shooting sports.

Butch and Louise working hard at the food station.

Just a side note here...The big debate around the store is who ate more hotdogs...Stephanie or Ken...More to follow on that issue.

The first ever shooting related equipment SWAP MEET which we ran  concurrently with the First Shots program was also a success.  A special thank you for all of the people who took the time to set up their own tables and sell, trade, or give away their excess gear.

Anticipation as students begin to fill out the safety waivers.

Introducing Our First...Spotlight Members of the Month!!

Meet Bruce and Marian McKay.  What a better way to introduce our new Spotlight member program (which will start October 1st.) than with one of the nicest couples you would ever want to meet.  Our staff sets the clock with the arrival of Bruce and Marian each and every Sunday.     Every Sunday like clockwork, the McKay's work on their shooting skills and have a ball trying to out do each other.  Rumor has it that Marian sets the bar pretty high.

I guess it is true what they say about the couple that shoots together...stays together!!

Each month we will randomly select a member from our roles to be the Spotlight Member of the Month.  The spotlight member will have a reserved priority parking place (appropriately marked with a sign), receive 10% off all targets and ammunition for the month that they rein as spotlight members.

BUYING GUNS FROM Center Target Sports ONLINE...

As many of you know we have a link on our website that allows you to go online and select from thousands of firearms for purchase.  It is impossible for us to stock everything you may want so this is a great alternative to satisfy your shopping needs.

This is a great program and we are thrilled that so many of you are taking advantage of it.  All you need to do is follow the Gun Gallery link on our website.  Once you put in your search parameters, review the available firearms or accessories, make your purchase.  When you make your purchase you will be required to pay a deposit.  The balance will be paid at Center Target Sports when you pick up your purchase.  Firearms are normally delivered to Post Falls the next day.  When your new firearm arrives, we will take it into inventory and notify you that it is ready for pickup.

Special Notice... Attn: Reloaders

We have purchased an entire estate sale of firearms and reloading equipment and components.  Literally an entire pickup bed of reloading components alone.  New brass, new bullets, reloading dies, RCBS and Lyman reloading presses, scales etc.  Tens of thousands of rounds of new bullets (Rifle and Pistol calibers), New brass, Primers and so much more.

Since we do not normally sell reloading components, these items will be priced to sell.  We want our members and patrons to have first choice on these items.  We anticipate the inventory to be priced and on display for sale by Friday the 17th or Saturday the 18th at the latest.  Come on in and take advantage of this one time offer.

CAN YOU SAY DIAMONDBACK .380???
So many of you have asked for the Diamondback .380.  On the street it is becoming known as the "Glock .380 Clone".  This 380 is not made by Glock, but it does resemble it in some ways.  It is a micro-compact .380 automatic pistol made entirely in the USA. Designed with safety in mind, the DB380 features a "ZERO-Energy" striker firing system (patent pending) with a mechanical firing pin block, a steel magazine catch to secure a sheet metal magazine and real windage-adjustable sights, all in a lightweight pistol.

A steel trigger with dual connecting bars allows for a crisp smooth, five-pound DAO trigger pull. The DB380 features a FEA (Finite Element Analysis) designed slide and barrel that is stronger than any comparable firearm, resulting in durability with less felt recoil, and the absence of removable pins or tools makes field stripping easier than ever. The slide, barrel, and internal parts are coated to resist corrosion, making this pistol a lifetime investment.

Capacity: 6+1 Rounds, Weight: 8.8 Ounces, Width: .750", Barrel Length: 2.80", Trigger Pull: DAO 5 lbs

sf fire rescueSUREFIRE G2L- FYL FIRE RESCUE LIGHT

Finally we have these awesome Fire Rescue flashlights in stock.  These lights come in two sizes and we stock them both.  They are the perfect gift for the Firefighter who has everything.  The G2L-FYL Fire Rescue is a compact high-output flashlight designed for firefighters, paramedics, and other first-responders.

It features a body made of tough, corrosion-proof Nitrolon polymer and a hard-anodized aluminum bezel and tail cap click switch. The G2L-FYL uses a virtually indestructible power-regulated LED and precision micro-textured reflector to produce a smooth, brilliant 80-lumen beam with four times the light output of a typical two-D-cell flashlight.

The pushbutton tail cap click switch provides secure, ergonomic activation control: press for momentary-on, press further to click constant-on. It includes a diffuser kit providing three beam options narrow for search and rescue, wider for area illumination and close work. It is MIL-STD-810 rated, which includes testing safe in most potentially explosive atmospheres. Its fluorescent yellow color and included reflective body stickers make the G2L-FYL Fire Rescue easy to find in dark or smoky conditions.

Virtually indestructible LED emitter regulated to maximize output and runtime. Precision micro-textured reflector creates smooth, optimized beam. Tough polycarbonate window resists impact. Three included micro-lens diffusers permit customization of beam pattern. Tough, lightweight Nitrolon body with deep grid pattern for secure grip, aluminum bezel. Tail cap click switch press for momentary-on, press further to click constant-on. MIL-STD-810 rated, safe for explosive atmospheres. Extra-long fluorescent lanyard included. Monthly Safety Tip!

A few words on Hunter Safety...

The early morning temperatures we have been experiencing have motivated me to write about Hunter Safety this month.  Every year, hundreds if not thousands of hunting accidents happen across the country.  Unfortunately, North Idaho hunters have not been exempt from this reality. I believe a few basic gun safety techniques could prevent most accidents.

It is a fact that many people don't know the function, operation or features of their firearm.  Read your firearm owner's manual from cover to cover so you thoroughly know your gun. You should also practice taking apart your shotgun or rifle and inspect it thoroughly.   Knowing what your firearm looks like normally, will allow you to recognize any abnormalities of the gun in the field. If you drop your weapon or fall with it, immediately take it apart and check it for damage.

Always keep your gun unloaded until you are ready to start hunting. If you are going to hike to a new location and have no chance of seeing any game, unload your guns before starting out. Never haul a loaded rifle around in your vehicle or on your ATV.   Know the ammunition you are using and how it performs with your firearm.  Sight in or check the zero of your rifle before you get to the field.

When setting up your shot, there are many things to consider before you pull the trigger. Never, ever take a shot at a partially obscured target. Make absolutely sure you identify your prey before raising your gun to take the shot. If you're in any doubt about what is moving, control yourself and your emotions, don't shoot!

You should always know what's in front of and behind your target before squeezing the trigger. Don't shoot animals that appear on hilltops and near the tops of ridges as you can't see or identify what may be behind the animal. Don't use the gun's scope to look for your game. Use your binoculars first, and if the shot is clear, switch to the scope.

Never look down the barrel of a weapon for any reason. Keep your muzzle pointed away from yourself and others at all times. Learn and use various safe carrying positions for carrying your rifle or shotgun while hunting.

Never hunt or handle a gun if you have been drinking or taking medication that may impair your judgment. Be sure to get plenty of sleep the night before your trip and go home early if you find yourself becoming tired or exhausted.

Wear your safety gear.  Bring along hearing and eye protection and wear them before shooting. Include safety orange in your choice of head gear and upper body clothing. This helps other hunters in the area distinguish you from the prey. Getting shot because you were mistaken for a deer is a sure way to ruin your day. Always think safety first when hunting.

Mark all downed game with colorful flagging, an article of clothing or material. When field dressing or transporting a recently-killed animal, always wrap safety flagging, a brightly colored scarf or shirt around the animal's head or body.

Remember the four rules of firearms safety:

  • Assume all firearms are loaded
  • Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until on target and ready to fire
  • Know your target and what is beyond it

Some additional safety considerations to ensure a safe hunting experience are to tell someone where you will be hunting.  Avoid outings alone. If you go alone, be extra careful and hunt in familiar areas.  Dress properly and be prepared for the worst possible conditions. Check the weather forecast before going into the woods. Check hunting equipment before and after each outing, and maintain it properly. Always wear enough blaze orange to be highly visible to other hunters.

A little pre-hunt preparation can go a long way.  I hope everyone has a successful and safe hunt.  Be safe....

FREE PRESENTATIONS

If any of you would like to have Ed speak to your group or organization all you need to do is ask.  These presentations are always FREE and he loves doing them especially if the subject is Awareness and Personal Safety.

In the last couple of weeks Ed has spoken to the local Mothers of Pre-Schoolers, Rotary Club, NW Specialty Hosp to name a few.  In the next few weeks he is presenting to the Post Falls Chamber, Realtors Association, and Idaho Writers League just to name a few.  The opportunity to give back to the community is a huge privilege and we will always make an effort to work a speaking engagement into his schedule.

If you would like Ed to make a presentation to your group, just call Peggy at 208-773-2331 to get it in the schedule.
