November already....Where has the year gone?  As we continue to prepare for our busy season, we can't help but be very thankful for this past year.  We continue to experience tremendous growth in sales, memberships and class enrollments...Thank You!

I just offered for the first time the rewritten Defensive Handgun I course.  From all accounts it was very well received.  I have revamped the entire defensive HG series.  Def I, Def II, and Tactical pistol have all been re-worked to better develop the skills of my students.

As always, all our classes may be repeated forever for free.  Take advantage of this offer and experience the changes....It is FREE.

Stephanie, continues to bring in new products.  This month alone, she brought in more PINK items, digital camo range bags, gun earrings, and much more.

P.S. This is an email Ed received after teaching a security team last week... It doesn't get any better than this!   Peggy

"Thanks for the best class and instruction I have had in the protection field and also in any other realm of training I have been in. If you ask up here (Alaska) I have been to quite a few over the years. Ed is an excellent instructor, teacher and mentor. He truly believes in what he is teaching and what he wants to pass on to his students. There are very few training courses that you walk away from that change your life or one that you make a new friend  that you would do anything for. Your training facility and you as an instructor hands down are the best offered anywhere. You do not just teach a subject, you teach from the heart and you believe in what you are teaching because you know it will make a difference and save lives. You have not just made a new student but a lifelong friend."

The Sparrow Silencer Has Arrivedsparrow

Have you ever thought of owning a suppressor for your rimfire pistol?  Well no need to wish any longer.  CTS will help you with all the paperwork.

We are proud to announce that we are the area's Stocking Dealer for the Sparrow Silencer/Suppressor.  The sparrow is CAD designed for light weight, accurate use on a large platform of weapons.  Any 22 rimfire firearm that can have a thread mounted suppressor will work well with the Sparrow.  This low-maintenance uniquely designed system is now in stock.

Come in and shoot our Sparrow equipped demo/rental gun.  With the 38 decibel reduction in noise...hearing protection is not necessary.  You will be amazed at how quiet and accurate this system is.

Of course all NFA Rules apply.  Contact our staff for details on the purchase procedure for this "must have rimfire accessory".

The Sparrow weighs in at 4 ounces.

It is designed with the following features in mind:
It has a Stainless steel rear cap to prevent wearing of the suppressor
threads
  • It is built with cnc machined chambers instead of using a traditional baffle stack to reduce weight and to prevent the dreaded "baffle spin" of conventional suppressors
  • It is 6" long and 1" in diameter and will clear the sights on about any 22 rifle or pistol available.
  • Thread adapters will allow it to fit other firearms not threaded in 1/2-28 TPI
  • It is available in OD Green as well as flat Black
  • These features allow us to reduce cost to make a can that is hearing safe, simple in design, and affordable.
  • All of these suppressors come with a lifetime warranty, excluding the use of full auto fire which can melt the aluminium components in the suppressor.
  • They build the Sparrow cans with a maintenance free design.

Approximate sound reduction:  38 decibels

Weight: 4.5 ounces

Length / Diameter:  6.5" x 1"

Material: 300 series stainless steel / Aluminum

Attachment: 1/2-28 Thread mounted

Christmas Time = Many Classes...

Again this year we are capitalizing on the time between Christmas and New Years to offer classes that may appeal to families or visiting family members here for the holidays.

We are offering Basic Pistol, Defensive Handgun, and Utah CCW.

Don't hesitate to call with any questions on these and any other classes.  Register early as they will again fill fast.

Great Gift Items Are On Their Way...

Stephanie has ordered some great looking fleece lined Soft Shell jackets with the colorful Center Target Sports Logo embroidered on them.  These items will make a great gift for the shooting sports enthusiast in your life.  They are warm, rain and wind resistant.  Many people will wear them year round and others will wear them as a layered system during the extreme cold.

Starting in November all Center Target Sports logo items will be 20% OFF to members.  We are committed to providing the most benefits possible to our members and this is another way we feel we can enhance your membership.

Also making their way to our retail floor is a line of concealment jackets.  Just in time for the winter cold.  Of course these concealment jackets will not have any logo's or other visual clues as to the covert nature of the coat.  These are the best concealment coats I have ever worn and we are proud to offer them to you this year. Look for them to arrive soon.
The NRA Sues Seattle Over Illegal Gun Ban

Last week the National Rifle Association filed a complaint in the Superior Court of Washington State against the City of Seattle, asking the court to enjoin and declare invalid a recently enacted parks and recreation administrative policy that prohibits firearms in parks, community centers and other city-owned buildings. Other plaintiffs in the case include state correctional officers and private citizens.
"NRA members are outraged that the City of Seattle has ignored and defied state law and an opinion of Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna," said Chris W. Cox, NRA's chief lobbyist. "The NRA will continue to fight this senseless infringement on the rights of law-abiding Seattle gun owners."
The city is in violation of Washington's preemption statute, which forbids localities from enacting this type of ban. In October 2008, Attorney General Rob McKenna issued an opinion, which put the City of Seattle and Mayor Nickels on further notice that Washington cities may not enact local laws prohibiting possession of firearms on city property or in city-owned facilities.
"Law-abiding Seattle gun owners should be allowed to protect themselves when they go about their business, even in a park or other recreation facility," concluded Cox. "This illegal ban even prohibits the most law-abiding citizens with Right-to-Carry permits from possession in 'prohibited' areas."
The Second Amendment Foundation, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and the Washington Arms Collectors, Inc. are working in conjunction with the NRA and are co-plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the city.
The Machine Gun Photo Shoot Is Back

Due to the overwhelming success of the last machine gun photo shoot we machinegunhave decided to do it again.  It will take place on Saturday Nov 14th from 10am to 5 pm.  This is a great opportunity for you to get a beautiful professional photograph of you or a family member shooting a full-auto machine gun.

Last year over 35 families or individuals took advantage of this offer.  Don't miss out and plan ahead for a great exciting experience forever preserved in a photo taken by Michael Notar of Shutterworks Photography. $60 covers the range time, ammo (2 magazines), target and 8 x 10 photo like the one above.  It's a first come first served process, so don't be late.
PRO Ears are now available...pro ears

We are now a Pro Ears Dealer and have Pro Ears for you to try for yourself.  You may have seen a number of us wearing these electronic masterpieces.   I have been wearing them for many years.  As we expand our retail inventory we will continue to be very selective.  We have  always had a good selection of hearing protection.  The addition of the Pro Ears will complete our selection with the Top-Of-The-Line available.

Dynamic Level Sound Compression™ (DLSC) Only Pro Ears models of electronic hearing protection/amplification muffs feature 'DLSC™' Dynamic Level Sound Compression Technology. This superior technology allows the wearer to hear every sound even during high volume noise spikes. While other brands say they have 'compression' technology, they do not. What they do have is outdated technology, either 'Peak Clipping' or 'Automatic Level Control'. 'Peak Clipping' turns the amplification system off when noise levels reach a preset decibel leaving the wearer with passive muffs. 'ALC' simply reacts to high noise levels by lowering the unit's volume so the louder sounds still drown out softer sounds. In both technologies loud noise levels compromise the ability to hear quieter sounds. Only Ridgeline's 'DLSC' technology protects hearing while at the same time allowing the wearer to hear lower volume sounds such as normal conversation. 'DLSC' works by instantly 'compressing' all noises over the 70 dB threshold by 50% to a safe level while amplifying all sounds below that to 70 dB. The result is the wearer will hear everything, including conversation, while simultaneously being protected from dangerous, high volume sounds.

YOU'RE ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR TRAINING!

Seems like everyone is hanging a shingle lately "Firearms Instructor".  There are many opportunities available in our area for you to take firearms related classes.  I have always encouraged diversity of instruction for my students.  However, you must never sacrifice quality for diversity.

We get requests from instructors all the time to use our facility.  Ever wonder why I have only allowed Bob Smith, John Farnam and Massad Ayoob to teach at Center Target Sports?  It is not for the money as we do not get any part of their fees.  It is because their philosophies, tactics and skills make them the best at what they do.  I know these men, I have trained under them, they have mentored me, they all have uncompromising standards, and their first priority is always their students.

I do not have all the answers, never said I did.  But I am very confident in our training programs.  Every CCW class we teach, overwhelmingly exceeds the State mandated curriculum.  The fact that you can repeat any class completed forever for FREE should speak to our commitment to you.  Also, the fact that I will help in your defense in the courtroom Free of Charge is a savings that could easily exceed ten thousand dollars.

Bottom line, prior to taking training from any source, please check out the program, speak to other graduates, and assess the true value for your money, time and ultimate skill development.

 Street Wise....

With the popularity of our Street Survival Skills (SSS) class, I thought I would share with you some tips related to carrying in the 'Public Eye" (in public).  Surviving on the street is much different than what is often taught in the classroom.  Below, are a number of suggestions that have all proven themselves through my own real-world experience and trial-and-error testing.  Don't underestimate the importance of how your lifestyle and dress relate to the tactics and skill sets you decide to implement or put into your defensive toolbox.

Suit & Tie
Real life is not like movies or television. When you're in a real-life critical incident does someone stop the action and have a stunt man take your place?  I can't tell you how many times I've seen civilians in suits with a belt that's too narrow and thin to support their gear.  And what do you wear on your feet when you wear a suit?

What shoes would you choose if you knew you were heading into a gunfight? If you must wear an Oxford shoe (low cut), make sure it laces and does not have all-leather soles. All-leather soles provide no traction. Ditto for Western-style boots. In a fight it's like you're standing on ice. And finally, my observations about shoes apply to women, too. If you wouldn't wear Gucci loafers, why would you wear high heels?

Ties are my next bone of contention. Would you wear a noose to a fistfight? I learned this lesson back in elementary school.  I know there's no way you would wear a clip-on tie, right? Well, that's your decision and you'll have to live with it.

Finally, what about the suit jacket? A belt holstered or shoulder holstered weapon requires a cover over your weapon in public, whether it's some type of jacket, sweatshirt, sweater or shirt. What's the problem with the jacket? There's no problem if you're trained, practiced and competent in drawing your weapon from underneath it, but most civilians don't train this way. Do you wear a jacket during firearms training? Why not? Train as you work, work as you train.

To properly draw a pistol from under a jacket, it takes two moves, not just a simple gripping action. The first move sweeps the jacket back and out of the way, past the pistol. Then, as your shooting hand comes forward from the sweep, you grip and draw. Tip: Always stow your keys in the weapon-side pocket of your jacket. This will add some weight and momentum to the sweeping motion.

When wearing a pullover, instead of sweeping back, forcefully pull the pullover up and over the pistol, then grip the pistol on the weapon-return motion. In both situations, don't attempt to grip the pistol until the garment clears the weapon or you will wrap it around your pistol grips. Learn how to use both hands in combination or separately to do this. You never know what the real world will throw at you, so practice each method.  Tip: If you wear a shoulder holster, use your non-shooting hand to pull open your jacket to gain access to your pistol.

Test Your Gear
This brings up a good point. You must test each and every piece of equipment you carry or own to see if it will perform properly under stressful situations. Don't rely on manufacturer advertisements or a sales pitch. In the SSS class I encourage my students to carry as they do on the street.  If their gear fails them and they complain about having to get new equipment, I tell them it's better to discover this in training than on the street.
